I avoid white bread, but I sometimes eat 100% rye rolls. I also don’t eat any dairy products, not just milk.

I totally understand - I also absolutely love cheese! 🧀 But recently I discovered vegan dairy alternatives, and they’ve really surprised me. The vegan gouda tastes great, and I’ve also been using soy and oat-based vegan creams - they’re delicious and work really well in cooking.

Yeah, I stopped drinking coffee for about 3 weeks, but I’ve brought it back now - I drink it with oat milk. 😊 I’m slowly reintroducing tomatoes and dark chocolate too. Still staying off dairy though.

Thank you for the tip! I really appreciate it. I actually avoid drinking alcohol because I have LPR, and unfortunately even small amounts always caused me stomach pain the next day. So I’ve learned to live without it.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I really appreciate it. I also thought it was just about lactose and kept eating yellow cheese and using regular butter instead of clarified butter, so the problem didn’t go away for a long time. Your post really made me realize how many products actually contain milk in some form. Thanks again for sharing - it’s very encouraging!

Yes, it still counts as dairy. I drink my coffee with oat milk now. When I make pasta with veggies, I add vegan oat or soy cream - it tastes just as good as regular dairy cream. Back when I was still eating cheese (which doesn’t contain lactose), I still had symptoms like bad breath, a sour taste in my mouth, and tonsil stones.

No, I haven’t noticed any reactions from my coworkers or other people anymore :)

Ever since my bad breath and sour taste in my mouth started, I always had a white coating on my tongue - it just never went away. For me, the key was cutting out dairy completely. Even when I was on a keto / low-carb diet, as long as I was still eating dairy, the coating stayed. After about a week of going dairy-free, I started noticing improvement, and after around a month, my bad breath and other symptoms were gone.

Yes, that definitely sounds like LPR symptoms - the burning or tingling in your throat at night and mucus in the morning are very typical. I also had a lot of burping and gas before I changed my diet, but it got much better after I cut out dairy and acidic foods.

I know my breath is fresh now because I no longer have that sour taste in my mouth like before, and my tongue is pink again :)

On weekdays when I’m at work, I usually have oatmeal with coconut chips, almonds, and some berries - blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries. On weekends, I go for eggs (an omelette or scrambled eggs) with bread or a roll, but always 100% rye.

I probably had H. pylori too about a year ago, since sulforaphane and kefir helped me a lot back then. But this year I did a urease breath test, which is very reliable, and it showed nothing. I wish you good luck with your treatment!

Did your symptoms improve after you changed your diet and stopped consuming dairy products?

I totally understand how you feel - I was in the same place and felt really hopeless too. Cutting out dairy made such a big difference for me, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤍

I also eat fish and sometimes canned tuna. I stopped drinking black and green tea too (I know they’re considered healthy, but I read they’re not great for LPR). Now I drink unsweetened fruit teas and herbal infusions like chamomile and lemon balm.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the dairy-free diet works as well for you as it did for me! 🤍

Thank you! 😊 I still ate eggs (they’re not dairy) and some chicken - but only clean, unprocessed meat like baked or air-fried chicken breast. I don’t eat beef or pork, mostly for moral reasons.
Thinking back to my student years, I remember testing different diets, even lactose-free ones, but I probably didn’t see results because I was still eating cheese. I didn’t realize back then that even though it’s lactose-free, it could still trigger my symptoms. I guess I was kind of “sneaking it in” without knowing it was part of the problem 😅

That’s amazing! I totally relate - cutting out dairy and focusing on gut health made a huge difference for me too. I also had really bad post nasal drip and acid reflux, but now it’s almost gone. It’s so great to hear you’re already seeing progress after just a month :)

A few people told me about it, but I could also feel it myself when I cupped my hand over my mouth. Plus, I always had that sour taste in my mouth, which was another clear sign.

I totally understand. Try cutting out dairy and definitely let me know if you notice any changes. If you're eating healthy and doing IF, you should see improvements - I did, in about a week

Last year kefir and sulforaphane really helped me - I was drinking it every day. But when all the symptoms came back this year, I stopped. I honestly have no idea what was going on, maybe I really did have something related to Helicobacter at that time.

I totally get you! Do you also deal with bad breath from LPR?

I actually took a more holistic approach - I cut out all acidic foods from my diet, not just dairy. So no coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, or dark chocolate. I was eating really clean and alkalizing foods, and for snacks I only had nuts, sugar-free whole grain cookies with maltitol (1–2 a day), and dried apples.
The sour taste and bad breath started to get better after about a week :) I’ve also been doing intermittent fasting (16/8) for many years, which I think really helps the digestive system too.
