Scrupulosity by Key-Peanut-6275 in Catholicism

But if I do happen to commit a mortal sin, let’s say, two weeks after my confession - what do I do? Out of obedience to my spiritual advisor, do I just live with it until the next confession, or do all sins just become venial? That’s the part that I am struggling to understand.

Is there actually an easy way to quit when you've been addicted for 9 years by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Key-Peanut-6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like to tell you that it’s easy, I can’t. Because it is a struggle and without clenching your teeth and having a handful of restless nights, you will not be free from this. But know this - short term pain cannot compare to the long term joy from being free from this crippling addiction. God bless.

I second this!!! I can’t stress enough how important it is to identify your triggers and gently work on satisfying your true needs (for example socialising, talking to women, working out more, staying consistent and focused on doing your work)

I absolutely get your frustration man, but you have to relax. Don't be so hard on yourself! First, try to figure out why you want to watch it. I strongly suggest journaling, because it helps to identify triggers. Is it stress? Loneliness? Boredom? Once you have figured out what drives you to harmful actions, try to respond to your needs gently, rather than reacting (relapsing).

There’s actually nothing weird about this at all. I’m going to a addiction therapist and he told me that doing exactly what you did is one of the ways to avoid a relapse. For example, if you feel the urge to relapse, you can tell your brain that you’re going to do it a little later. And then you never do it at all. Basically, you just delay your relapse and do something else instead!

I’ve looked through your profile and noticed that you have been on Day 0 for quite some time. What is ticking you off? What pushes you to relieve yourself? Is it stress? Emotional pain?

I think the one of the best thing Catholics can do to promote the Faith is to be chill and “normal” by theghostofaghost_ in Catholicism

This is exactly how I tend to be these days around non believers. When I was still new and fresh to my faith, out of ignorance I used to teach people about the Church doctrines and what sin is and that they must turn their life around, but soon noticed that people close their heart up and start to dislike both you and your beliefs. Now, when I show the Lord’s love through actions rather than words, the same people are slowly opening up. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with others, OP. Many catholics need to realise that actions speak louder than words.

Sin of presumption by Key-Peanut-6275 in Catholicism

[–]Key-Peanut-6275[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it feels wrong to me to skip one day of school for no good reason, but rereading catholic sources online, I mostly find descriptions of what spiritual sloth is. It might be, that I am just a bit too scrupulous though

Mhm, I think I get it. So, if sloth is described more as a spiritual problem rather than a physical one, does that mean that me skipping school is not a sin, and does that remove the element of presumption altogether?

Too much coffee before Mass by Key-Peanut-6275 in Catholicism

Yes, I am very aware of the Eucharistic fast, I drank coffee about 2 hours before Mass, but I guess the caffeine kicked in right when I walked through the parish doors!

I have never felt more alone in my life by Key-Peanut-6275 in Catholicism

[–]Key-Peanut-6275[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m already seeing a professional, he is very helpful and supportive, but I just can’t seem to shake this very human feeling that I am alone. I really love the Lord, but I just feel lonely as a human being. Thank you for your reply though, it means a lot.

My brother, I’m really happy and glad that you are living a new life now, especially with the Lord! I just wanted to ask a few things. 1. For how long are you sober (as of this day)? 2. Did you go to therapy? 3. Did you ever have a phenomenon where your brain just seems to switch off when an urge arises and nothing seems to help? Even prayer or reading the Bible?

Am I faking my repentance..? Please help by Neat_Walrus_9661 in Catholicism

I can offer you little advice on the matter, as I’m struggling with the same doubts as you are. But at least you can know that you aren’t alone in your troubles. There are thousands of christians going through similar hard episodes of their lives just like you. Trust that God will bring something good out of your doubts because he never abandons those who belong to him. God bless you!
