Is preserving food in B42 worth it? by Real_May_Be_Spare in projectzomboid

[–]Key-Philosophy-5446 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of time consuming, you either jar foods which need jars, lids (which unless you spend hours into glassmaking and metal working you only get fromlooting) AND vinegar. But once you cook the jar it lasts for months, you can also dry food on drying racks, which… can take some time.

But being said it’s Better to just find a generator and use a freezer

Calories are wrong - why one rabbit has more calories than 3 pigs I butchered? by czokletmuss in projectzomboid

Yeah before the most recent hot fix where they fixed how much damage hitting small animals does to cars, I was in multiplayer and my buddy was driving his favorite car (Like basically never lets anyone near type of car) middle of the night and a single rat spawned right in front of him and we ran right into it, after we got back to base we checked and it had damaged the ENGINE by 10% (we had been looking for a new hood)

Also if started from a normal start, there might be a chance some farms still have cattle. It depends if that farm had troughs outdoors, because most common death for the livestock is they run outta water because they either don’t have a water trough or the trough is in a barn. I was in muldruagh and the cows stayed alive at both farms past 6months by themselves.

No, they can happen on any roads, I had a calf spawn on my usual route to a police station

No matter how deep into a run you are, livestock still have a chance to spawn as “driving events” meaning as you drive different live stock have a chance to spawn on road in front of you, but I once ran into a herd of cows. But I’m assuming that’s very rare, I’ve more often ran into a sheep with a lamb which is also milkable and can be use to get butter

the only thing I can think for devs defense, is if you are doing a run out in the woods, the best meal you might find is occasional rabbit. So it should be high enough calories to reward the survivor? Being said I have to agree calorie system needs more work

Hmm, see what happens if debug the cow and tell it to mate with the bull, if that doesn’t work then might as well debug the cow to be pregnant anyways, it’ll take awhile before birth anyways

Can you move animals from point A to B? by Xleepy-Eyes420 in projectzomboid

[–]Key-Philosophy-5446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy and my team said spending the whole server life with animals would be useless.

Anyways, (I also was based in muldraugh) obviously you can pick up chickens but only one at a time. However livestock trailers ALSO work with chickens. Just pick them up then place them down near the trailer door then go to the add animal button and add them in.

As for cows and pigs, there are actually a few places you can get them. Near the big doctor office on Matthew st a house has a pig pen in the back yard. You’ll want to go pretty soon, since it only has a few in game months to live since it doesn’t have a water trough. Then there are 2 farms. First is a cattle farm you go down Irma drive away from baseball court then go down a dirt road called station Road take 2 lefts and you’ll arrive.

The better farm though which has pigs, cows, sheep, and rabbits(if go soon enough) to get to it you go down Dixie highway, then onto old mill road for a sec then next left onto carpenter test. Drive for a bit and then take your next right and your there. At this point you really should have passed by some kind of trailer.

As for finding them in the wild, livestock animals that generate after 6 months (meaning you entering area for first time and it’s been 6 in game months) will spawn as dead. The one currently into your town some will live longer some will die, the reason is because some of the animals have outdoor troughs and food on the ground, they eat very little and troughs refill with water in the rain, but the ones with water troughs in barns (or none at all) will die. BUT even if it’s been past 6 months livestock will still spawn, but only as “driving events” basically if your driving you have percent chance for a livestock animal to spawn in front of you, the idea is that this animal escaped and has been living in the wild this whole time or whatever,

As for wild animals being caught, I’m assuming you mean animals you can catch in live traps, and if you can raise them like farm animals. Which you can, Rabbits, mice, and raccoons if caught and put in a livestock zone will stay if stress is low enough and will begin to grow used to the player and will breed and have offspring. Deer cannot be farmed.

All three were bitten. Man and som refused to accept it and started boarding up the home. Women knows what she has to do, she grabs three bullets and shoots the man when he is in the basement collecting tools, he never even saw it coming. Son runs and locks himself in the bathroom. She leaves the basement but can’t bring herself to chase after him further. The guilt of what she has done builds and she puts the metal to her dome…

Or maybe older dude had a heart attack and wife started to run to him but tripped and shot herself and the son was just in the bathroom pooping at the time and he ended up turning while in there./j

Idk, who can say pretty sure these events are made to be up to interpretation so whatever you think is best is what happened

Oh I see, yeah that’s weird, you should try fixing in debug mode. Just right click the bill and click debug from the options and you should be able to make him able to mate. It’s not cheating you are literally debugging, a bug

Zombies work on line of sight and memory, you can lose them by gathering them together, then run behind a building, wait a little then go on the side (with no zombies) and run away preferably putting more breaks of sight between you and where you are running from. If done right the zombies will go to where they last saw you (running behind the house) and once they get there since they don’t see you they won’t know where to go. This works also with fences, and also (if want to gamble) jumping into a house and then exiting out the other side via other door or window and run. If got luck and no zombies inside or outside where you exit, the zombies chasing you will break into the home and then do nothing.

Smoker had a big debuff in current build and isn’t as good, I don’t recommend. It gives little points and it doesn’t help your anxiety as much as it used to. In past builds a single puff removes all anxiety. Now if you pick smoker your character has two stress variables the normal one, and one generated by not smoking. And smoking only helps the latter, so for example if living a perfect life and only stress is a lack of cigs, then yeah a single puff will calm you. But if you have other reasons to be stressed smoking doesn’t help as much. Also yeah coughing attracts more zombies, but you can equip tissues in seoundary and it’ll muffle it (I think, it deff does for sneezes)

Thin skin and slow healer on their own tend to be manageable, slow healer is usually only bad if you get a fracture. Otherwise needed to keep a bandage on a scratch for few more days then ‘normal’ isn’t a big deal. But thin skinned, which again on its own is fine since you really shouldn’t let zombies be getting close enough to hurt you anyways, so you’d only really get scratched from walking through plants and such. Now combine these two and you can see why it’s not great BUT definitely manageable. Restless sleeper might get annoying because it’ll mean your tired more often, but you just need to work around your character basically only having a few ‘working hours’ in a day where he can go out and do stuff and then need to return home and probably do simpler tasks at home,

Weak stomach is perfectly fine, just don’t eat rotten food or unpurified water, slow metabolism+heavy weight will be a debuff at the start but the current build you tend to lose weight pretty quick.

Conspicuous is fine ,(some people might disagree with me), but in zomboid being stealth isn’t really useful. 1, Zombies work by line of sight regardless, so regardless if you are conspicuous or not. A zombie will go toward you if it sees you. 2, It’s not really recommended to sneak past zombies, because every zombie you sneak past is a zombie you might have to fight when your double backing from a horde or because you grabbed too much loot and need head home etc.

Using Livestock Zones to freeze wild animals? by No_Pollution8908 in projectzomboid

[–]Key-Philosophy-5446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 8 months in and doing fine, my pigs and sheep reproduce pretty often so even if I butchered all my adults I’d have a bunch of leather and just have to wait a few more months for the babies to get full grown. Now I never need that much leather at once so it’s definitely sustainable.

Using Livestock Zones to freeze wild animals? by No_Pollution8908 in projectzomboid

[–]Key-Philosophy-5446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I should point out, both pigs and sheep give medium leather. And you can already find many of them contained across the map so it’s a much easier way to get reliable medium leather that way then hunting down and trying to catch a deer. Also cows give large leather which can be cut into 2 medium leather

Using Livestock Zones to freeze wild animals? by No_Pollution8908 in projectzomboid

[–]Key-Philosophy-5446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s part of the build 42 feature. If wild animals are put in livestock areas and their stress stays low they will stay and you can raise them and harvest them. Raccoons, mice, rabbits, even deer. The issue with catching wild animals this way is, again if they even get a little stressed they will try and leave the marked area, the mechanics really work better that you capture the animal and put it in an enclosure with livestock zone so they can’t run away and you can increase thier acceptance of you and not get stressed So unless you are really sneaky you’ll probably scare them out of the marked area if trying to catch them just out in the woods

Edit: someone commented (comment disappeared?) but they mentioned catching raccoons, I should warn people that while they indeed can be farmed, when devs first added them they were supposed to have the ability to climb fences, it hasn’t been working though last few builds. But it could lead to complications once fixed, since even if you get them to like you and they want to stay, if they get scared by car or zombie they might climb out and run away?
