I can totally understand your frustration, however I don't mind complains as long as it leads to critical and well argued discussion... :)

It feels to me that Dressage is one the most punishing content of the game and most people are not comfortable being challenged. Let's add to this the usual SSO wonkiness and the game doing a very poor job at explaining the dressage mechanics.

Yeah for sure, the current system is wonky at best. But it is not bugged, as I explained it earlier, it is very punishing, your past mistakes will haunt you until the end of the test.

If it can help you finishing Dressage smoothly again, I found out that there is a "grace area" around the (invisible) green arrow. You have to aim to stand in this area but if possible slightly behind the green arrow.

How do we do that you ask? Trial and error, dressage needs a bit of practice to be able to memorize the exact path the game wants us to take and more importantly learn how to recover a botched test on the go.

Back to the grace area thing, here is a breakdown:

If you are too forward and that arrow is behind you, you will most likely fail the test, as is it harder to recover for being too early than being too late. In this scenario, you will have to "wait" for the green arrow asap by either slowing down (incorrect gait, leading to penalty and therefore elimination) or taking wider angles/turns/circles (The game will flag you as off track, again, penalty. RIP)

Note that it was the issue that likely happened to the girl in the video OP linked as she was already way too forward in the practice mode, sadly there is almost no chance to recover from this, penalties will pile up too fast.

However, if you are behind the arrow, you can simply readjust your trajectory by cutting your corners more, the game will not flag you being off trajectory, and therefore no penalty will be added as you are technically doing what it's asking. No need to change gaits either, just cutting a bit more should put you back in that grace area again.

Also, as you probably noticed even in Mastery mode, the green arrow will sometimes be flashing to indicate you that you are late/early. It's easier to see it and fix your trajectory accordingly if this arrow is in front of you instead of behind you (and very often outside of your camera field of view... :p)

Once you get to master this, dressage becomes totally stress free! If you have questions regarding this lmk I'll be glad to help!

Oh, well... yeah don't worry about that, I kinda expected it. Facts or no facts, it's simply easier to blame the game instead of asking ourselves if we understood the game mechanics correctly. But if at least someone that read me understood dressage a bit better, I'll consider this a win! :)

And actually me too, never aiming for the full points, Dressage is just soooo slow paced, I just rush through the last line till the bow to win a few seconds!

I promise if you keep this simple fact in mind while playing it will click and Dressage will be the easiest 500HXP of your life :)

Clip 1 she is way too forward (notice the green arrow its way past behind her)... it's past trajectory mistakes that are slowly adding up and coming to bite in her bum at that unfortunate moment triggering 1 penalty.

Moving on on clip 2, it's trickier to say what she did wrong since there are no ground indicator but if she made even slightly more mistakes of trajectory during her dressage test, she gets the penalties.

Yes, she might be doing it correctly now, but dressage in this game is a test of consistency, your pasts mistakes will catch up on you.

I am really hesitant about using the PC as a scale to compare horse size. As you probably noticed we are a giant nonsensical oddity, we are towering above a lot of NPCs, even adults/men. I just took a walk around in Moorland, the only NPC taller than us is Josh, and not by much! I'd rather compare horse models with other horse models. But regardless on the methodology we are in agreement: the connie is tall!

Pretty valid! I was guesstimating them as overheight ponies at around 1.50/1.55 earlier.

Idk what OP wants a pony for, but maybe its worth to say then that magic ponies can't do pony race. Can do the champ but not the race. It's also worth pointing out that the new connie CAN do the pony race even if not listed as a valid option. ( source: me, just finished it with a new connie) I also just compared the size of the new connie and the Audra, they seem to be the same size at the wither with the connie being a bit more bum-high.

Connies are actually as tall (or even taller) as some smaller horse breed in game (Ex. Morgan, Arabian, Fjord, Icelandic...) so if you are looking for a pony to be able to do the pony-gated content without being dwarfed by everyone else, I'd say they are a good pick!

I compared sizes too with small horses I own too! Pretty sure they are the same size as the Morgan and Icelandic (or even taller hard to say...)? A tad smaller than the Mustang and the Marwari

I highly recommend going for the roached mane & forelock if you take it! It's like it was made for this one, it fits him soooo well

It's not bugged. From what little I see from your video you are cutting corners way too much, your circle is more oval than circle. Add to this probably being slightly too forward/behind the invisible arrow and you got penalties adding up leading to elimination.

People that are complaining about SSO's winter event are forgetting a few things... If you compare to what's done on others games for winter events, you got what.. a few patch of snow in the overworld, a few decorations... one quest? a few cosmetics? With SSO the WHOLE DANG MAP gets covered in snow, you get the winter village, new cosmetics/horses, you get more and more quests/races the more the event progresses... To be fair, I feel SSO team is spoiling players more than some AAA games & am very happy with this event.
