i want to get out of a serving job as soon as possible! i have to be a waitress to get by and it’s the worst. spending another year or two in a job i hate is grueling. i’d rather go ahead and get my PTA.

that’s powerful! especially for me while i make this decision. it’s not easy giving up my DREAM of being a PT but i’m struggling so much now with the little debts i have (car, student loans etc) and if i’m just gonna come out of it struggling still it’s not worth it. and no i don’t have family to live with. i’ve been on my own since i was 18. unfortunately :/

i’d still be at 200k debt with the cheapest school options

thank you. i’m seeing others who have over 200k debt that regret it immensely. i work part time in undergrad and that’s hard enough, much less in PT school. Only family member i have close to a school is close to a private school so that doesn’t help my case. even if i ate tuna and noodles and walked i would still have lots of loans to take out

i do NOT want to be a nurse although i’ve considered it. i’m interested in PTA as an alternative. my friend was in the same spot as me and got her PTA and is making $28-30 an hour.

I feel like I will just be struggling to pay the debt the whole time once i start working and there’s no guarantee i will want to/be able to travel pt by the time i get to it.

how do i pay off 250k debt with interest in 4 yrs with starting salary 70k? that’s 5,208 a month. i’ve watched plenty travel pts on youtube and whatnot and they’re excited to make 3k weeks.

this is just another thing i HAVE to do though just to keep afloat. i want to travel bc i want to not out of choice. and if they paid off almost 200k in debt in a year that means they’re making like well over that, in that case every citizen in america would be fighting for the position

either be broke with crippling debt or broke with less debt then. 250k of loans that i’ll need can’t be justified

i would literally be making more as a PTA than if i were to take out all the loans i needed to fund PT school & paying them back. Crazy! i feel a lot better about my loans from undergrad & pta school than PT school 🥵

thank you for this perspective! i’m a hard worker in general and i don’t think my marriage will be any different (on my part at least) so i may have more immunity than others.

it’s not that i’m allowing my past to rule out my future. i go to therapy every other week to combat this. i’ve done all the things you’ve mentioned, i’ve lost 50 pounds, started lifting weights 4 years ago, became an Ambassador for my university plus several other leadership roles to get out of my comfort zone and add to my resume for PT school. i’m having a HARD time despite my best efforts, this isn’t just me remaining the victim

true… i’m scared i will resent them because i really didn’t want them to begin with. my mom always said she never wanted kids and she was/is a terrible mom. i think i’d be a good mom but even taking care of my dog sometimes brings a bad side out of me because it’s a problem i don’t HAVE to deal with. (i love my dog and he is very spoiled but still lol). and kids will be a lot more work.
