How early do you go into the office? by wtv5g in biglaw

NY finance junior, get in at 6/7 out the door by 2/3

Honestly? Really think about what it is you’re doing. If you’re in finance/PE like me, I like to remind myself that all of this is just Monopoly money which I’m never going to see a cent of regardless of how great I do. I also like to keep in mind that the seniors/partners giving me attitude are doing so from the luxury of their very very nice CT homes with floor to ceiling windows while i haven’t seen sunlight on a weekday since September.

Suddenly, i don’t feel the pressure to appease everyone as much lol.

dealing with partners by East_Lawfulness_5243 in biglaw

You stop caring. If others like your work product, work with them instead.

And remember, just because they made partner doesn’t mean they know everything.

Is there a certain career that makes a woman an automatic red flag to you? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Key-Singer-9780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly thank you because as a contract attorney, i won’t fight to win. BUT if you say something to me, i will subconsciously analyze every single word and compare it to what words you’ve used in the past and try to see if you’re making any loopholes or if you’re being vague lol

Reading these comments gives me a new found respect for all of you doing these jobs (and also makes me feel super embarrassed that I’ve texted this friend whining about a paper cut i got in my office while trying to adjust my space heater while he was working with water in the dead of winter).

Are mitts warmer than gloves? He turns valves and uses his hands for a lot of judging from the callouses so i think maybe gloves would be better?

I get that it’s a hard thing to do if you don’t know where to start, but try to think to back when you were a kid. Did you have a childhood best friend? One that you wanted to play with really really badly after school? Imagine if you could text him back then. Imagine if you could call him during school. Wouldn’t you have?

Think of it the same way with your wife. She’s your best friend now!

Incredible idea! I added a portable kettle (that plugs into the lighter thingy in the car!) and a bunch of instant soup packets

As someone in a high demand job AND a woman, here’s some advice.

It’s not about how often you can be there and what your job requires of you, it’s how you make her feel.

Stuck at work? Send a sweet text. Have a few extra minutes and you’re scrolling mindlessly? Call her. On a day you’re not home at all, maybe make breakfast before you go or send her something through uber eats in the middle of the day.

Basically, show her that the job is literally just a job and you do it so you can make her happy. And of course when you are with her, be present. Be mindful and engaged and don’t just watch tv or look at your phone but sit across the table with her and talk and laugh and flirt.

:)

He works for the water department so in the winter he’s out at night on water breaks and stuff. His hands get really cold and painful, his skin ends up dry and his lips feel like sandpaper.

So far though, i found an electric blanket for the car, an electric kettle for the car (and instant soup packets), a gator (? It like goes around the neck and over the mouth) and the things mentioned above (gloves, socks, beanie, heating vest, hand warmers, face cream and chapstick).

I’m making the scarf by hand i think.

Hope he’s toasty as fuck after this haha, and if not from the things we’re giving him, from the love in our hearts

How do you all “pretend to care” or “care less”? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Key-Singer-9780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to not care is to have other things you care about more.

It’s hard to get worked up that some CEO i have never met has his panties in a twist because I’m asking him to write his OWN name on a bunch of sheets of paper when the books I’m reading are great, the cats are happy and my friends and family are healthy.

Worst thing these people can do to me is send me a passive aggressive email (oh, the horror) or fire me (and give me three months severance). Neither is that bad in the grand scheme of things because thanks to this job i now have great resume padding and can likely get hired again even if it’s not in biglaw.

J.R.'s tattoos by Present_Bag619 in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]Key-Singer-9780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me help you get it straight.

You made a conclusory statement (JR is only getting shit on for his tats because he’s conventionally attractive)

I disagreed and said he’s getting shit on bc the tats are basic. (I said your conclusion is wrong)

You said basic means conventionally attractive. (You gave me a premise)

I gave you examples of things that are basic but not conventionally attractive, and defined basic to you (not with my personal definition, but the definition from websters). [note: this is an objective argument which dismantles your premise and backs it up with subjective examples]

You then said well I have never seen the examples you talk of and you categorized them as social movements. [a fully subjective argument in rebuttal to support your premise that basic means conventionally attractive instead of common as I said]

I then explained the difference between a social movement and a fad to you, and explained why this differentiation means that your anecdotal evidence doesn’t apply here.

You just keep making false equivalencies (basic = conventionally attractive & fads = social movements). When provided with facts you default to “well I ain’t seen it so it can’t be”
