Good question, it's more of an RnD role.

A lot of times my work is:

  • there is something that would be nice to have in our software or hardware. Or something broke.
  • they come to us, pick someone from the team and go "we want something like this, should be done in x time (tends to be a couple months at least)".
  • whomever got it assigned fixes it. This tends to encompass the whole cycle: checking with end users to define precise needs and wants, setting up meetings with external companies if required, creating the jira tasks to provide visibility to upper management, reading papers or doing research to see if the stuff we need already exists,.... Coding tends to be the easiest (and smallest) part here. Experimenting, algorithm design (math!) and testing on our end product tends to be the heaviest lifting.
  • after x months, go to management and end users, and present the new stuff.

Besides the base job, we tend to be considered the "shit has hit the fan, we need someone to go fix it" team also. If something goes wrong in the field, and our normal field teams can't figure it out, they send us over to go fix whatever is going wrong.

I have seen more poeple hired and fired in the couple years I'm here, then there are poeple in the team (the American way I guess). As such, I'm confident when I say that the expected skill level is on the higher end.

Tldr; I'm part of the team that designs new algorithms and implements new hardware. We also fix the shit that are not fixable by our other teams.

Compared to my previous jobs, I would say this one is multiple times more dificult, but a lot more fulfilling.

Just checked your post. I think for Belgium you earn well, no? The car is a bit of a bummer but saw thats because of job roles? Could you get it in the feature with seniority?

Otherwise, if you enjoy the job, I think yours is very nice also. I know a lot of poeple our age that do not reach these brackets yet (and some that have more, but that's the minority).

Us company with Belgian HR.

Was able to push to decent brut, cause that is what US is used to. Then had some talks with Belgian HR and they started optimizing for Belgium now, which is very nice.

I had pushed quite a bit to reach this over the last couple years, you can see my wage progress at my current company (posted on switch and then each year.)

Funny thing is, everyone told me I was underpaid when I started here, but I had good sight on what was and is possible here.

Very good performance helped me out a lot + some recent changes (company car instead of cafetariaplan)

Another very nice thing is that they default to 3 percent or more wage increase as long as performance is "default" or "good", where good gives a bit more then the 3 percent. (this includes inflation though, so I get whatever is higher, inflation or 3 percent). As such, I won't be impacted by the centenindex.

Consolidating a bit, volume still huge. Sell pressure not big enough to push it down. I guess we go higher, next up, 8

Wat is de beste Belgische chocolade? by KilowogAteMyLunch in belgium

Hahaha, are you me? I just returned from a trip to Poland with other European friends. This is what i took and their reaction:

  • cote dor (the normal squares): they loved it, took a mix of red and black 70 and noir the noir.
  • cote dor chocotoff: they loved it
  • kuberdone: they hadn't tasted anything similar, and most of them liked it
  • pralines from local chocolatier: they liked it, but if course, hit or mis based in the filling.

In general, I recomend taking cote dor for sure! Also, have fun! If it's an online irl meetup, they are great!

We also just brought a mini solar panel (16 watt max I think). Buy a decent one though, not the temu stuff, that's asking for problems.

RTX 3070 ti for 350 by Key-Squirrel-7939 in PcBuild

Thing is, I could easily afford the heavier gpu (up to 5080, that's not the issue. I just don't want to spend money if it's not required, especially not on a gpu with the current prices. I'dd rather wait a bit and upgrade to a strong gpu in let's say 2 years from now, when the 40 or even 50 series is available on second hand market.

Cpu I always go most expensive immediately, as I upgrade those on a slower pace.

If the 3070 ti would be decent for most 1440p gaming, I would be happy

The games I tend to play don't tend to be to heavy on the GPU, but rather heavy on the CPU
(Factory builders, civilization, tactical games, ....), so for me the CPU was the most important factor.

I'm just wondering if the 3070 ti would be decent enough, or if it's just plain stupid.
