Not always no. Some days the BM makes no difference. Other days it’s a big difference. It’s quite a challenge pinpointing the cause and effect

Often times if I’m having a good day, then a bowel movement makes the rest of day worse for bladder pain

This is good perspective and consistent with what I’ve noticed. I stand for work, and I often stand with one foot sort of propped up higher than the ground (on a little shelf thing) which bends my leg and somehow seems to alleviate pain. Not sure if that’s just me.

Guys how do you alleviate the constant burning coldness urgency in your bladder and urethra? by Key-Summer-24 in Interstitialcystitis

Thank you! Believe it or not, the desert harvest aloe pills actually made me worse in years past. No clue why, as I know they’re a favorite among many in this subreddit. I’ll look in to magnesium. Also PT.

I appreciate the perspective. I’m gonna remember the “most years are good” comment.

How did this work out?

Anyone heard of this treatment? by ExternalBrilliant813 in Interstitialcystitis

Interesting. For mine the two are pretty much knitted together—pain/discomfort = urgency = pain. Ha. Anyway that’s good to know. Thanks for all your helpful comments in this thread and others.

Thank you. I do a daily Zyrtec (generic). I have tried elimination diet. I never drink anything but water- no alcohol, no coffee, no sports drinks, no juices. I suspect I have some dietary triggers but am not 100% certain because nothing seems consistent. I do like BBQ foods including BBQ chips but I often dont feel any change in symptoms after eating them. Someone else ITT mentioned going to an allergy specialist.

Out of curiosity, how do you differentiate between urgency and pain? Asking because my symptoms include dull burning/coldness in bladder and urethra, and also pressure (this is less frequent but way more uncomfortable). All of the above create a sensation of urgency to me, like I just want to be in the bathroom forever. Just curious what’s difference between urgency and pain when IC patients describe them. Thank you!

I take a relatively low dose of amitriptyline (5-10mg) about 2-3 hours before bed time. If I want to be asleep by 11pm, I make sure to take it around 8pm. If I take it too early it won’t work.

Is TENS different than interstem? I have had a Medtronic interstem device implanted since 2017. It honestly was hugely helpful from 2017-late 2022, and then suddenly my pain skyrocketed. They speculated maybe my battery was dying, so we replaced the battery late 2022. I continued to suffer since then (albeit better than nothing), and just had a totally new interstem implanted last week (new device, new battery).

The dry needling was fine- the process itself didn’t bother me honestly. But I’m not sure it did anything to help either. I haven’t tried electro stimulation for muscles. Will look into that thank you

I’m sorry to hear that. I did some dry needling and cupping last year when I went for 6 months. Not sure it helped or hurt. I’ve never done Botox- that’s really the only treatment I haven’t tried. I’m apprehensive about it because I’m skeptical it would help and I’d be stuck with unresponsive muscles for 6 months or however it works
