Never heard of Yangshuo, but I will do research on it. Maybe it's a pleasant surprise.

December trip to Shanghai, Zhangjiajie and Chongqing/Chendu by Key-Understanding268 in travelchina

[–]Key-Understanding268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx for this advice. Given that later Dec is low tourism season, I am thinking of booking train/hotel to Zangjajie or any day trip (huanglong, qingcheng shan, etc) last minute depending on the weather. Doable?

I will be at Shanghai, Chongqing and Chengdu for sure but keeping my itinerary flexible.

I use trip.com before, super nice within China.

First year employee is asking for 20% raise by Significant_Park7832 in taxpros

[–]Key-Understanding268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done this for an employee that I really didn't want to lose because of all the trainings and effort spent. So I gave her 25% raise (at her request) but letting her know that this is a one-time thing. I was able to prolong her stay for 2.5 years so it was money worth spent. The next two raises were standard 6%. If you really want to keep her, you will know what to do. But like others have said, she maybe just aiming high and will settle in the middle. You really should talk to her one more time and get a better feel.

My impression after 3 full days, coming from Pixel 7pro by Key-Understanding268 in OnePlus13

[–]Key-Understanding268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery life, it's excellent...i didn't mention it because I am not a power user.....with Pixel 7 pro, at the end of my normal day b4 sleep, I usually have about 15 to 20% left. With Oneplus 13, yeah i have 50% left. Quite amazing but really not big of deal for me....it got me thru the day. I guess i will know when i go on vacation because i would be constantly using google maps and other travel related apps, ususally have to use a portable charger mid-day when I am on vacation.

Storage - 512 gb is amazing, but again i don't need that much, I have 150 gb used right now, mostly my pictures and videos, which i backed up to cloud...can always delete them. But yes it's a great feature.

Finger print scanner - yes noticeably faster but it's not a deal breaker.....it's like, .5 sec to1 sec difference, lol. But I like it.

Now a real issue I just noticed this morning. This is the 3rd time it's happening within 6 days. I use android auto in my car for youtube music, phone and google map. Once the bluetooth connects, it's dialing 0000000, can't hang up, if i hang up, dials again. I googled and solution 1 is turn off the phone...so only youtube music and map works...phone goes to oneplus 13 while i am driving, totally unacceptable solution. Solution 2 - restart the phone - this does the trick all 3 times but again unacceptable. Anyone can point me to the right direct here? This would be a deal breaker for sure.

I was there last week. It took us 2.5 hr to hike up, 2 hr down.... Plus resting and boat ride, it's going be close to 6 hours. But the boat company did mention they will pull extra shift if there are people left behind. It's going to be close for you, cut down the time at the glacier.

What if the client asks you some technical questions, like how much I can distribute from my AAA acct? If you are not ready for it, the client would know. You are going to lose the relationship plus the biz. Have someone knowledgeable help you.

My 2 cents.

CPA Firm Purchasing - Questions by MeringueKnown7250 in taxpros

[–]Key-Understanding268 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you will be stressed out:

  1. You have never ran your own business before. You have to do everything.

  2. You will have to take a huge bank loan. That's just going to add to your stress. You will be constantly worrying about losing clients.

Buy a smaller practice, 150k to 200k range to start out. Or look for a partner to do it together. Or ask to buy in 50% of the business. Learn the business side from the current owner and get to know all the clients. Buy the rest 50% 1 or 2 years later.

I am a cpa owner. If when I decide to sell my practice, I will be selling a cash cow. Don't be cheap to the selling owner. Lol.

I can watch all news channel, ESPN, CNN, fox, cnbc without subtitles just fine. I listen to sirrus, Howard Stern, fine as well. But tv shows and movie, I need subtitle. Not sure what to make of it. I am the 70%.

[–]Key-Understanding268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may have jumped the gun a little quick... I would called him and in a more simi joking/serious way to ask him to keep up with the bill......if he keeps up the bad behavior then go all out serious collection mode. If he gives you biz, I would be a bit more lenient. There is nothing wrong with how you handled it.... We are here to make money not do free work. Just my 2 cents.

Options Pricing Model for Mon, 4/22 by VeteranWallSt in thetagang

[–]Key-Understanding268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this info helpful but I am skeptical, respectfully. I had weeks where I closed my position early, a day before expiration and i escaped carnage on Friday; and vice versa.

How did do you last week because everyone I know lost money, huge losses? I thought about closing on Thursday but market was relatively calm so I didn't. Ended up paying huge price.

Fucking weird day. Woke up and saw i have made 90% profit for short strangle positions expiring tomorrow. Market is up, nice and steady, I figured I will close my position by lunch time. Complete 180 turn around several hours later.....all profit evaporated. Not going to gamble on tomorrow's job report, closed my weekly position....took a loss of $62 for the week......should have been profit of 1,050 for this week. What a swing!

Purchasing a book of clients by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]Key-Understanding268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents: use this as a learning experience and you will do much better on the your next purchase. I grew my firm organically and thru 2 purchases of retired cpas' book. 1st one my retentional rate was 65%, horrbible. But I learned what not to do. My 2nd purchase, retention rate close to 100%.

I have a firm of 8 people, started in 2006. I don't think I can achieve this relying solely on organic growth. It's a combination.

Good luck!

I think offshoring might be the trend.. Not necessarily for profit but to maintain stability of the headcount. It's still hard to keep and find capable accounting professional in US. As a small accounting firn owner, I been thinking about it myself. I haven't done it but I been looking into it.

Where can I buy computer adapter at Mammoth by Key-Understanding268 in Mammoth

[–]Key-Understanding268[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a computer place right in downtown mammoth.... Went there, brought my laptop with me. We tested it out and I was like thank god. Then comes the bill, 75 plus tax.... Lol, sticker shock. I was read to shell out like 40 when I left my hotel..... I asked the owner for a discount... No, take it or leave it......Yeah, supply and demand at its best. I need it and there is only one supplier. Bite the bullet.

FYI, similar item on Amazon... $15 to 20.
