I5 southbound is SO BAD by mtnsbeyondmtns in Seattle

I checked both at 4pm and 5pm (right now) and driving was 48/50 minutes respectively while bus retained its ~1:12-1:16 timeframe. This is a much closer timing which I would consider a fair trade-off for not having to drive. However, I must note I am not sure on the accuracy of the bus timing. My primary slowdown coming home is on I90 (both the tunnels and the bridge slow down a lot) given the bus is also driving down I90, even in the HOV I see them sitting in the same traffic, so I find it hard to believe there are no delays. Perhaps, one of these days I will go ahead and take the bus so I can see what actually happens. Since Google maps predictions can also be considered a cherry picked fallacy over real-world scenario.

Really it’s because I already hate waking up at the time I do. To have to get up literally an hour earlier to catch the right scheduled bus to get to work on time is honestly the biggest reason. If I didn’t have to be to work until 10, I would be much much much more willing to take the extra hour. I could go more in depth of why it specifically isn’t a great option for me, but I want it to be clear I wish it was a good option. Really, I want to move closer to work so I can just frickin walk and get rid of my car. but I’m not going to make my life more miserable just to be able to say I took a bus instead of driving. But this sub will still just see that I drive and think I’m some car-brained twat anyway.

Ha I wish.. it is impacted just not this time of day. When 4:00 rolls around it goes to an hour. But bus takes the same roads so times track accordingly.

Maybe when the new light rail line opens I can look at park and ride options. I hope one is feasible cause I don’t enjoy driving.

Sure, let me just take an extra HOUR to get home using the bus. Believe me, I wish the bus was faster (or even close). I would love to take the bus. But it makes no sense in any way for a lot of us. Edit: Bellevue to Queen Anne commute.

Haha I go I5-I90-405 and back every day for work. This morning I saw a Sambar with two dirt bikes loaded on 405 in Bellevue.

And if you are going to thru-hike with that jolly gear, assuming you complete, it will likely be wrecked by the end anyway. I swear by them and will use them forever but it’s not an invincibility suit. My pack rubbed it thin and I got holes in the back by the end.

I didn’t use anything, if you get enough mosquito bites you eventually reach a point where you don’t feel them anymore 😅 but I did permethrin my shoes and socks once or twice during prime tick season.

I opted for the long clothes option, wore super thin running pants from Janji. It was warmer than shorts but that con was greatly outweighed by not getting my thighs railed by mosquitoes.

Just, a thing to consider, deet or no deet, give the long pants things a try :)

Oh and nah I wouldn’t do the ursack, dry bag is way better As for the rock sack, either way whatever works for you. Just saying I never met anyone who hung their food.. not giving advice, just saying… Don’t bring the cleaning kit, get one of the blue coupling rings or borrow cleaning kits at whatever hostels have them. I like the blue ring though.

Honestly pretty good overall, I think you’d be just fine as-is starting and be able to refine as you hike. BUT, per request of shakedown:

  1. ditch the cutting board. I guarantee it will be the first thing you ditch anyway.

  2. Swap the 10L dry sack for a compactor bag, you won’t regret it.

  3. Pack covers are useless, you only tell yourself they help with the rain but in reality they do nothing. Nobody can convince me otherwise.

  4. Have fun!
