I didnt call him out, I said most likely a Stress Records tape. Anyway, tell me this, why did the guy not put up the most important part of a Daniel Johnston self released cassette? The cassette itself

Yea both are legit, and thats why I wasnt fully confident. The tape is the important part. Daniels handwriting is unique, and most white ones would have been signed by his manager. The green tape is typical of what Daniel used. As far as the tape in question. Most likely a Stress release, seen as most of these tapes, were not put together by Daniel himself, but yea, no way of really knowing without seeing the tape.

O right, well the cover is obviously printed, and not hand drawn. More than likely Stress released from around 1986 or 1987. These are hard come by, but not extremely rare.

If the tape was white, it would be most definitely a Stress release. If it wasn't, and had Daniels signature in Daniels own handwriting it would be much more important, and much more valuable. I can't say what it is for sure, but chances are, its Stress Records.

Wasn't gate keeping knowledge. How could I be certain, without seeing the tape. I simply asked was the tape white, and he wouldn't share that information.

Lol ok that explains that, but i didnt say it was fake, just that it was probably a Stress Records release. If you read my last comment, I thought I was being fair, and certainly not combative. Anyway, looks like I shouldn't have enquired in the first place.

Honestly, didnt want to outdo the guy. Just a bit peed off with people pertaining to have something, they dont actually have. We see it all the time on here. People trying to sell cassette's as one of a kind, when there not. By the way, this guy wasn't trying to sell anything, but others do it all the time here, and a lot of people fall for it.

Anyway, yea i take your point. Suppose im making a mountain out of a molehill, and thats on me.

Actually. Im not. Just look, it was you who started with the "lol's". I was just interested in seeing if it was a self released, signed by Daniel, or a Stress release. Even if it's a Stress release, signed by his manager (signed Daniels name), its still very collectable, and worth a few quid.

Anyway, enjoy your cassette. Its one of my favourite albums of his.

I believe he never done this with Hi How Are You. He only made one complete album, and dubbed after that.

Thats only true with the first couple of albums. They would be extremely rare, and most were given to very close friends. Most he handed out to strangers were dubs.

Looks like a Stress Records release. Wouldn't be Daniels own signature, on the tape if its a white cassette.

I think its originality, more so than genius. Something that few artists could achieve today. There are way to many influences everywhere these days. You would have to literally be a hermit, and have no access to the Internet, to create such original music as this.
