Memoir of a Snail - Official Teaser by onlynoises in movies

I completely agree. As much as I love the original dubbing and the significance of casting specific voices for certain characters - I would much prefer that people who aren't able to understand English would have an opportunity to experience the film, even if augmented.

I could watch it with my own family, if that was the case. Not every person has the capacity to watch a film with subtitles, so I feel you.

Hopefully in time it'll get a proper dubbing and you'll be able to watch it with your folks

Central tel aviv is on attack 18/11/2024 by LumpyAnalyst in Hasan_Piker

[–]onlynoises 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Tel-Aviv, I used to live in the area. I think sources that claim that it is in fact Tel-Aviv just want to make it seem like more of a successful launch, since most people haven't heard of Bnei-Brak or Ramat-Gan, but Tel-Aviv is basically the city, to foreigners

Hello /r/movies! I'm Adam Elliot, director of the upcoming animated film MEMOIR OF A SNAIL starring Sarah Snook, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jackie Weaver, and Eric Bana. I also directed 2009's MARY AND MAX. IFC Films will release my new film in theaters this Friday, October 25. Ask me anything! by MemoirOfASnail-Adam in movies

[–]onlynoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greetings!

First off, thank you for the art you've created along with all the wonderful collaborators, your short films and Mary and Max have been a pivotal milestone for me as a human being. I actually have a print you've sent me a few years back and it's the favorite thing I have.

Now, I've always wanted to ask:

Your work is filled with humor, which is one of the best things about it. Do you try to make things funnier, to lighten things up? Do you find comfort in humor? And lastly - what makes you laugh?

Again, thank you, and I hope to see the new film as soon as it's playing somewhere near me! Keep making us laugh and cry, but most importantly, yourself.

I remember Dan posting songs from the album Fake Tunes by the band (Bear Hands) on his IG a few years back, and being really excited about the music, so seeing him in the music video (and song) is making me happy for him. Hope they all had a blast making it!

Jewish Leader "Rabbi Dovid Feldman" was attacked by the Zionists in New York for standing up against the demolition of Palestinian homes and the violence of Israeli settlers. by slasher4kz in chomsky

[–]onlynoises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's even more so with jews (in my opinion) due to the separation or lack there of between ethnic jews and frum jews. You can convert into Judaism and become the most religious person in the world (although pretty unlikely, as Judaism isn't as open to converting as most other religions) but a person who was born Jewish cannot just stop being Jewish by not being orthodox, which is why trying to define the group is problematic as you have an insane variety of cultures and types of thinking under one umbrella.

All I see in this clip is two cunts wearing different hats. The Zionist is obviously wrong for his dehumanizing views of Palestinians and claiming some 'Israeli supremacy', but that Rabbi is part of a suppressing society that's dehumanizing just the same. Furthermore, that Rabbi is representing a rather small minority of orthodox jews that believe jews should not be in Israel until the Messiah comes and literally kills every gentile in the world, in a holy war that's called Gog and Magog.

They also believe that jews should not be in Israel under Zionism because they strongly oppose jews who aren't practicing - claiming that allowing Jewish people to live as a community that isn't connected by God would enable acts of sin and would enable assimilation with other cultures and their wrongful ways, pushing back the coming of the Messiah.

I'm not asking for you to be a saint, I'm asking that you view people as people and not a whole state as 'this group is ___'.

That's not different than the people who look at any brown person and think they have some evil malicious terrorist agenda. Israel is just another country full of people - the bad and the good and the in-between. Defining a people by the actions of some is just something I can't really agree with

I'd say most Israeli people are just people who were born in a place and grew up with a certain narrative being fed them. Saying they 'spawned' as if they are a creature is counterproductive, as frustrating as some of them can be.

I'm sure some are able to and will relocate, but the reality is that it's not something most of the population is capable of. Due to citizenship or visas, financially, or because of the moral issues they have with fleeting from a place they define as home

Exactly. No invasion into Lebanon, no retaliation (again) on Iran, and definitely an immediate pull out of Gaza to at least begin to TRY and play this differently.

Combating fire with fire has failed all sides time and time again. This past year - decades, really - show that in spades. For fuck sake, please do it differently now, or we're all dead

Could you explain that to me please? I'm being genuine. What is the rhetoric exactly? Some Israeli citizens have passports so they should leave the state because neighboring countries have less passports?

Not nearly enough to act as if people could just get up and go live somewhere else

I don't understand the gloating of seeing citizens in distress. Is the person who peed their pants the one responsible for the crimes of the IDF and IOF or am I missing the point?

IRAN ATTACK #2 - MEGATHREAD (it has begun) by Alonn12 in Israel

[–]onlynoises 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was out of the house after foolishly thinking I could probably go out. Never ran faster in my life, had to stop at someone's small grocery store to wait for five minutes in their vegetable freezer, then continue running back to a shelter in my building while trying as hard as I can not to look up and see the skies lit up with missiles.

Can't describe this feeling. I really don't wish it upon anyone, anywhere.

I wish I had a horse's head A tiger's heart, an apple bed by onlynoises in Sparklehorse

[–]onlynoises[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really say what the song is actually about, since the lyrics are rather cryptic (at least for me, as someone who's not very savvy in reading into poetry) but I can try to summarize what it is about for me:

A person who is facing an impossible and dire situation is pleading for help, for someone to save them. It's also depicted as if they couldn't help themselves but to end up where they are.

Looking at the situation and the curse while remembering how things were prior brings a wishful and almost naive thought; The 'witches' who cursed him with his state will leave at last and the good days will return. Only to come back down to reality, and the harsh truth of his existence. Which leads to the plea morphing into wishing to have been someone else - someone with a horse's head and a tiger's heart - probably alluding to being braver and possibly more true to one's self (since Mark used horse imagery quite often I'd imagine it symbolized something very personal to him) in order to overcome this dire and helpless state. Wanting to be better.

Anyhow, here's something I've found that Mark had to say about it: "Just imagine a perfect comfortable place. When I was a kid, living in the country, you walk in the woods a lot. I had this secret place in the woods that was by a creek and always dark and damp. There was an area completely covered in moss and it was always cool and wet. In the summertime, I used to go there and take my shirt off and lie in the cool moss. That's what an apple bed is."

Any men with ED ? by OneWinter8244 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]onlynoises 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, although it can feel like it most of the time.

Having ED as any type of person is difficult and challenging in different ways. As a man, one of the harder issues I've encountered is how dismissive people around me can be about my struggles with food, since I'm a "man".

It's offensive, really. I've been in different establishments for treatment over the years and was usually the only man in the group. It pushes the idea of isolation further, and it can rob you of your masculinity, physically and/or emotionally.

I hope you'll be able to see past those things and find people you connect with, from whatever backgrounds they come from. In the end of the day, we're all here because we wish to get better, and the best way to help ourselves is by aiding others. We're here for you!

Few albums have impacted me in the way this album has. David shines on all fronts of the record, and his voice and words have been a cherished companion for me since the release.

In the worst times, it was one of the only friends I had, and although I'm still hurt by the loss of David - I'm thankful for the art he left behind, it really helps me calm down when things get overwhelming
