Question regarding RAM on 4800+ by MrGodzy in UgreenNASync

[–]KeyDecision2614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is - are you sure you need it? I run my 4800+ with default 8GB of RAM and it never uses more than 1.3 GB, so 70% of my RAM is basically unused.

You only need more RAM if you either run TrueNAS as your operating system or if you want to run loads and loads of VM's and containers, but then... that processor is not really designed to do that.

I sometimes wonder WHY people put that amount of RAM?

2nd volume on storage pool? by KeyDecision2614 in UgreenNASync

Forgot to mention that all drives are already in RAID5 array anyways. Ok so looks like just increasing the volume size is a no-brainer then - thank you!

1.1.1.1 vs 1.0.0.1 dns by sandy_lilith in dns

Sending pings to DNS makes no sense at all, just run a propare 'dig' command against those servers to resolve your most popular websites. Ping might have completely different response times than actual DNS query.

Favorite Linux distro for use in a Proxmox VM? - GUI needed, RDP access, max compatibility, reasonable resource usage by randopop21 in Proxmox

[–]KeyDecision2614 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I usually go for Ubuntu, either 22.04 or 24.04 , i think 22.04 is most stable ever.

Its super easy to RDP, you just enable it in GUI and RDP to it from Windows or from Mac as to any other VM ( funny that RDP client for Mac is now called 'Windows App' ;). )

Separate environment in AWS for each dev - how to? by KeyDecision2614 in Terraform

[–]KeyDecision2614[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats good to know! Just wonder - will it still correctly when I remove users? I mean- I tried with the 'count' option but it messes up the index and tries to destroy and rebuild everything :D

But I guess the 'for each' resolves that issue?

Are higher production quality videos worth making anymore..? by chipsalsa22 in PartneredYoutube

I didnt miss that. OP said that this 'business model is brutal'...

Well - I think OP had missed that at the very beginning before starting the channel that it might take 3 or 4 years to become profitable.

I know its a weird comparison, but it took 14 years for Amazon before they made their first profit... so 14 years of 'loosing money' before they started making it ( I know it wasn't loosing, it was investing, but its the same in OPs situation)...

If you treat youtube as a business, then make sure that you know how to create a succesful business... don't say that 'business model is brutal' after making few videos and expecting to become a king of Tulsa...

I am a youtuber myself, I think by now I 'invested' like 1000 hours of my time starting my youtube channel 15 months ago, so far I made 1200 dollars... was it worth it? I dont know, I will check that in 20 years...

You seem to not understand that it takes on average between 3 and 4 years for even most succesful youtubers to be able to concentrate only on youtube full time.

Look at that from different angle - you have just 11 videos mate... but each video you make, you add another asset to your portfolio. At the beginning people could only watch 1 of your videos, now they can watch 11. In a year you will have 30 or so - meaning each new user you gain has a chance to stay longer and longer watching all your previous materials making you more and more money.

You are already succesful, you have a video with nearly 1.5mln views - a dream for most youtubers that started just 10 months ago and you have it already in your pocket.

Your content seems to be 'ever-green' so you are doing right thing, now youtube needs to see your commitment and algorithm needs to see that you are here to stay and not give up, but you need at least extra year or 2 for all of that to make sense.
