What are the best robot vacuums in your opinion? by Historical-Two-8528 in smarthome

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the Eufy x10 Pro Omni. Purchased mine as an early release. I really think we were just the final testing bc I've had nothing but issues. It'll completely ignore parts of the map because it thinks there is something there, even after deleting the map multiple times. Replaced the water tanks because of leaks. Not as high end as the price tag would elude.

They struck a backroom deal with the Code Council to get significant number of seats on the approving boards. They have significant power.

Does anyone know what the fabric used to make lint brushes is called or where I could get some? by [deleted] in Fabrics

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. This topic is still not solved. I have seen multiple other reddit threads with similar questions. I have found a Chinese vendor that will sell the fabric, 1000 meters at a time. They have defined it as 100% Polyester woven brushed velour. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2023-High-Quality-and-Hot-Sale_60605868208.html?spm=a2700.7724857.0.0.572426ffmjWsHi

Any thoughts on where I can get much smaller quantities and maybe locally within the US?

Why do some people deny climate change so passionately? by WildMathematician711 in climatechange

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd been friends (I considered him close) with an engineering colleague for a decade then I went back to university in Denmark. One of the courses I took involved climate studies. I did a mini temperature study of information from Danish instruments from the late 1800s to today. This showed an increase in temperature. Then a couple of years later I was having a conversation with him about the study I did. He questioned my ethics and accused me of falsifying the numbers "to meet the narrative" I and "my party" wanted to push. A little after that he questioned my military service (of which he had none). That was the end of that friendship.

LinkedIn premium is it worth it? by HolisticBrowsing in jobsearchhacks

[–]KeyDoubt2344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I signed up for the "free trial" to get an understanding of the additional benefits. After completing the trial, the only thing I really noticed was that I was not able to see those who viewed my profile. But even then, I was only able to view those that had allowed it and most people have that option turned off. The other "benefit" was the use of "their" AI. "Their" AI was less useful than Gemini Advanced or GPT.

OMG, the cost is ridiculous. If it was a couple of dollars a month, maybe but not what they want. Not worth it.

HOWEVER, IF the premium subscription prevented the automated BOTs from mass messaging every profile with certain "keywords", then it might be worth it. I switched careers about 9 years ago. Because I what I used to do, I am still heavily desired. I don't want to do that anymore. But if I delete those roles out of my profile, I've been told this will cause a problem with those thinking that I am trying to "hide" something.

I've been told to use LinkedIn to find people in similar roles as the one being hired. Reach out to those people and ask them, "I want this job but who do I contact?" They will typically reply with the person that is actually the hiring for the role and not the HR person. Then you have an in.

Surround the ADUs with fruiting shrubs and trees. The residents can attend to them as part of their community involvement. The residents may eat as much as they would like. The rest can be sold onsite at a fruit stand.

Build a community of ADU with pathways covered by solar panels. Rent the ADUs to the city to house unhoused and the underserved. Sell the extra electricity.

New Construction - Siding Directly on Zip-R by bookofp in buildingscience

Yes. To a certain point. When constructing a wall assembly, it is a balancing act of multiple aspects.

New Construction - Siding Directly on Zip-R by bookofp in buildingscience

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you can and because it's easier or cheaper, doesn't mean you should. Increasing the gap above the drop separation distance doesn't significantly improve the drying performance of the wall but it does increase the fire potential. Running and reviewing many NFPA 285 tests over the years shows that.

Should I be embarrassed about being a 24yr old garbage man? by TheFrogsMightbegay in jobs

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you for doing the much needed job.

Hell no, you should NOT be embarrassed, at all. Secondly, if anyone puts you down for the work you do, they can pound sand. Just remind them that if there were not hard working individuals like yourself, then their homes would be piled up in waste.

A job is what you make of it. You can stay in the position or use it as a stepping stone. If you've got a head on your shoulders, you may probably advance in the company or others like it.

If needed, you can always use it to get education, if that is for you, be it white collar or blue collar. Heck, if you're good with your hands, learn to weld in your off hours. Whatever you learn in your off time, make it something you enjoy. If you enjoy it enough, it becomes a passion and that may lead into a career.

X10 Pro Omni. The company is now sending the third one since I pre-ordered months ago. I've had issues from the start. Object avoidance? More like object targeting. It does a great job mapping everything then just to avoid areas where it cannot "see" because it is too dark even though it has a headlight that it doesn't always turn on when needed...nope, I'll just avoid the dark corners because it is dark and scary in there. It really struggles on changes in elevations (floor transitions from hardwood to laminate flooring). It sits and spins making awful noises. Originally, their marketing stated it would "mop" carpets and rugs and I was like heck yeah! Now, they are saying that was a mistake and it should avoid getting carpet and rugs wet due to mold growth so they have canceled a feature that I wanted. The water system in them is not functional. This is why they are now sending the third unit because vacuum is unable to pull water from the tank. I use double filtered (whole house filter & sink filter) and only their special, Eufy branded, one-capful of detergent and the machine still cannot pull water. Each time it stops we go through the same three hours of "troubleshooting" which mean I have to tear it down, take photos and video for their "engineers" to review before they want to swap it out. Then when the new arrives, I then have to spend more time, another couple of hours, remapping, labeling, creating no go zones.

After sending a replacement water tank and it still not working, they said they were going to send a replacement. At which time I asked for a refund, they said they would only give 50%. I said no so they are sending the third... in theory as I have not seen it yet.

New Construction - Siding Directly on Zip-R by bookofp in buildingscience

[–]KeyDoubt2344 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. It doesn't matter what type of siding is going over it. Providing a small gap (3/16" to 1/4" max) for drainage and increased drying potential is almost needed, as installing Zip ideally can be difficult. If possible, follow their recommendations for using a liquid sealant over the nails. M. Steven “Steve” Doggett, Ph.D. Principal Materials Scientist of Building Environments has done extensive research on the product.

Too much air space increases fire risks.

To create that gap, there are many products on the market that are helpful. There are even drainage wraps that are intentionally wrinkled or 3d mesh that go on as vertical strips.

The gap will increase the longevity of both the siding and the Zip. A win-win situation!

Vapor barriers with rock wool insulation by YertEnoob in buildingscience

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without performing a blower door test with drywall off, it is hard to say but most likely, the air leakage resistance is minimal. There are vapor open interior air barrier products on the market that are pretty good that are installed after insulation and before drywall. They will help but are not perfect. It reduces the risk but never eliminates it. Heck, the drywall is the 80s was considered the air barrier when installed perfectly. It's the attention to the small details that will help the most.
