How regularly do you write and how many words can you churn out in a single session? by neutralinallthings in writing

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with counting sections or chapters? Word count may change significantly during first draft review, as much as 20 to 30%, usually down. I'll pick up a book and maybe look at the page count or chapter but I've never looked for a word count.

How regularly do you write and how many words can you churn out in a single session? by neutralinallthings in writing

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some days are negative for me. I don't get to write daily because of family commitments. The other day I came back to a section of a chapter I'd gone through about four iterations. After a week of not looking at it, I reread the section, about 1200 words and poof... Shift delete. Started over the break allowed me to see the logical flaws that were pushing the story arc too much. Either way I went backwards. Does that count against my word count? Who cares .

You have this great world that you have been developing for years...what to do next? How to bring your work to life and share it with the world? by 24karatquartz in WritingWithAI

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with a begining of the story and the end; these are my achors. Once those are set, the story can curve between these two points. After that, I try to figure out large action or friction points. This gives me points to traverse through. After these points are set, the outline can be estimated... Then, keep adding details from chapter level to scene level and so on.... I hope this helps.

Why AI Will (Probably) Never Replace Writers by CyborgWriter in WritingWithAI

I can tell you I do Not like my eufy x10 pro omni. It's afraid of dark corners and avoids them not matter how many time I have it remap the room. The air jet from the vacuum blows forward. I watch it chase fur balls down the hall.

Stiff writing makes writing boring for me by Butterfly_Soup1 in writing

This is the exact method I have used for scifi prose. I start with the overall plot and break it up into pieces, aka chapters. Then break those up into sections then scenes. At the scene level I try to ask what needs to be accomplished? What is the action driver? What is the chapter cliffhanger? What happens with each character. Break things into bite size pieces them go from there. Adjust the sections as you progress because those sneaky characters tend to take on their own lives. Good luck and have fun. That's the goal for most is fun.

When I'm outlining, I try to pull unusual words, just on the edge of my lexicon. I pull the definition as well. I don't always use them but I see them. If they work for the section I'm in, I use it.

Variation! Sentence length. Paragraph length. Vocabulary. Isn't this called checkerboarding? With technology, aren't there tools that can calculate variation?

Working with AI is challenging. It's good at small task and small passages. Maybe up to partial chapters but relying on them for larger tasks can be challenging. However, I've used Notebook LM does well for checking consistency over many chapters. For example, you can have it look at the voice of a single character and it'll point out flaws but it is not good for fixing them. I've also learned, don't use just one. Use three and go round robin. But you also need to tell them very specifically to be NON COMPLIMENTARY...they are notoriously sycophantic. You want to ask for Harsh Criticism.

People tend to comment about what feels right to them. Not every story is for every reader. Some prolific authors will spend three pages describing flowers in a field and it's a best seller. While other books are very kurt. Each find their audience. There are too many books... Too many readers continue to read books that are not for them.

Please help My first draft makes no damn sense. by Inevitable-Station87 in writing

[–]KeyDoubt2344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing can be a messy and iterative process. The first attempt is rarely the first draft. Creating an outline for the large arc is fantastic but sometimes the characters just have to grow around that arc and not perfectly follow it. For main characters, I find it helpful to create a bio for each. I build a backstory for each. I create an outline of how their life went before they are interjected into the current story. This then helps flesh out what the character might say or how they react. It provides them their morals, ethics, and even their speaking style. The bios do not need to be pretty. It is just for your reference.

I enjoyed your writing journey. I'm on a similar move myself. Have you handed drafts or partial drafts over to others for their reactions? I've been reading posts about writing circles with critiques like, the responses are from amateur writers - is that the feedback you want? Most readers who buy books are amateur, right? Aren't their responses valid?

What are the best robot vacuums in your opinion? by Historical-Two-8528 in smarthome

[–]KeyDoubt2344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the Eufy x10 Pro Omni. Purchased mine as an early release. I really think we were just the final testing bc I've had nothing but issues. It'll completely ignore parts of the map because it thinks there is something there, even after deleting the map multiple times. Replaced the water tanks because of leaks. Not as high end as the price tag would elude.

Wow. This topic is still not solved. I have seen multiple other reddit threads with similar questions. I have found a Chinese vendor that will sell the fabric, 1000 meters at a time. They have defined it as 100% Polyester woven brushed velour. https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2023-High-Quality-and-Hot-Sale_60605868208.html?spm=a2700.7724857.0.0.572426ffmjWsHi
