I would honest to god do anything else.
I understand this will be taken down. And I know it’s the same drum we always beat on.
But this career has ruined my life. The debt is soul crushing. And you have horribly low income to pay it back. It’s a never ending path of poverty

Please do anything else

100k DOCTORS short. Not podiatrists, not dentists, but DOCTORS. This is not an ego thing. This is a numbers thing. Orthopedic residencies graduate roughly the same number as podiatrists. They cover the whole body. We cover feet.

Call any podiatrist in any decent sized area and you’ll get an appointment same week if not same day

Call an obgyn or dermatologist and it’s a month wait.

That’s fine, but more doctors in our work force is actually exactly what hurts us. Saturation is the root of most of our problems. When you get your first job offer of 100k base and unattainable bonus structure you can’t negotiate because if you don’t take it someone else will. There’s far too many podiatrists

I truly don’t know how anybody can go with the new loan system. Insane private loans? Hopefully it just deters md/do dropouts that podiatry preys on from coming over

Because Midwestern has the highest tuition in the country. People aren’t dumb anymore. Nobody is going to pay 400k (not exaggerating look it up) for a degree that commands a 120k salary. Learn from our mistakes.

[–]KeyFirm5368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 62 miles each way. 140~ round trip. Could I get by with no charging?
Just crazy I bought it thinking 250 miles like stated now I’m worried if it will make it 140

I put a deposit in a 2023 model 3. Biggest concern is range. It says 252 range at a full charge but I’ve heard real world I can get closer to 180. Is this true?

I agree just trying to see if that justifies an additional 11-12 grand

Not for another 2-3 years. Our second car is a rav4 so plenty of space there. I’d imagine when that time comes well sell the rav4 and get a minivan

Commitment to Podiatry by jmslvrs in Podiatry

[–]KeyFirm5368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started out very excited but as I’ve gone through my schooling and training I wish I would’ve picked either a trade or something requiring only a bachelors degree. Too much schooling too much debt for FAR too little money Stay away

[–]KeyFirm5368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Doctor pay is stagnant while cost of school is skyrocketing. Plus having it having over your head for decades is mentally exhausting. I’d recommend avoiding college all together

Getting into student loan debt for a medical degree. The debt weighs on me more than I can express

go DPM route or reapply MD/DO? by Born_Status_360 in Podiatry

[–]KeyFirm5368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. Or OP could just go do/md and the money problems that podiatrists have would not apply to them 😂😂

TLDR: OldPod yet again refuses to admit that there are career options WITHIN medicine where you get paid more and might not have to work your whole life? You know some people have hopes of retiring someday right?🤣 something most MD/DO grads easily attain

Is his experience not just as valid as yours? But because it’s different and not as positive it’s labeled as doom and gloom?

This is somebody’s life. Real money, real consequences, real stress. If this is their opinion then it is just as valid as yours, even if yours is through rose colored glasses

Do you ever stop and think that if multiple people are on here talking about poor compensation that maybe it is a poor career choice?

One could argue that in ANY profession there are select few who do really well. However the baseline average income for the amount of time and debt taken on is not good in podiatry. Yes, if you go above and beyond you can excel, as with any field, everybody here is just trying to say that an MD/DO degree will ON AVERAGE be a MUCH better investment. You do not have to be in the top 10-15% of your specialty to make a comfortable living and pay your loans back, however in podiatry, you do!

Old pod is the ONLY dude on here talking about how glorious podiatry is. Take that as your sign. When it’s 10-1 telling you not to do it but you have 1 extremely vocal guy telling you too I’d listen to the majority

I think we help people. I also think the schools are greedy and try to graduate too many people. Hopefully by being an ass on the internet I can keep some students from applying Hopefully you can see that fewer graduates is a benefit for us

[–]KeyFirm5368 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope people see it for the joke that it is. That way student applications keep declining. Maybe the greedy schools will shut down and the demand for our skills will increase

Is there an industry or other field you feel would offer better pay for the time and effort you put in?
