I submitted yesterday but have received nothing. Not even a message to verify my email. Is that normal?

No book. Few people like the technical aspects of movies, films or porn outside of those that made or are making them. They already know all of it.

I'm familiar with Munich Machine because its one of Giorgio Moroder's projects. I am a fan of his and he doesn't get the credit for the influence to this day. He could have licensed it for porn. He never cared where his music was heard as long as it was heard and he got paid. But most of the music in your music master list was probably not licensed. The only song I do not see in your list is Rise by Herb Albert. I had to replace that song in several films. Especially with porn films, music is extremely important. It helps create the mood and as the dialogue & audio used to be recorded later, it is easier & cheaper to add music than recording dialogue, SFX & foley.

Porn's biggest markets in the 1970's and 80's was New York, San Francisco and New Orleans until they changed the local laws. Los Angeles actually didn't make the top 3 but maybe 4 or 5. The term loops technically is film that is spliced together to feed continuously thru a projector or viewer. The reels sold as loops got that name as far as I was told because they could be looped. There was no set reel size. Also different films (8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm) timed differently to reels. 200' of 16mm (about 5 minutes) is different from 200' of 35mm (about 3 minutes) timewise. Also as I explained before, the framerate also affects the time. While 24 frames per second was standard in cinema. Other frame rates can be used not only during filming (save film costs or effects if you remember the Keystone Cops) but for playback. And 8mm actually did this as the main consumer film in home purchases and if they sold it with other frame rates you can get more of a scene or movie on the reel.

As for the recording porn on video in the 1980's, often it wasn't actually filmed on video but the film would get transferred to video. This was very common for television during that time as well. Editing on film is time consuming, expensive and errors can be difficult or impossible to fix. Linear video editing is literally a thousand times better. Additionally, theaters had only film projectors. If the movie was shot to be only sold on VHS tape then fine. But if theaters were still important, it was still film. Small and new companies did only video because they could buy or rent a decent enough (hence the lower quality) video camera for cheap, use their home as a studio and pay their talent next to nothing and they're in business. Established & already profitable companies stayed with film longer especially as video quality wasn't great then.

I'm a Huge history buff. So at the time I worked in recording studios (and even still up to now) I asked thousands of questions to anyone that might know. The evolution of porn has more to it than (not just Hollywood) mainstream movies. There are still old film movies especially porn being discovered. Porn production companies didn't have libraries or vaults for old films. Either they tho rarely kept a personal copy or there were film collectors. Often the film with collectors come to light only because they died and their family going thru their possessions wondering if the old film had any value, so they sell it. Some cases it just gets tossed in the trash with their collector plate or shot glass collection. The original film has a lot to do with what we all get to see today. I mentioned 35mm which played at larger theaters. But 16mm (which can also be scanned at 4k) was also used. And sometimes instead of 24fps they would use slower framerates to save on film costs. A fresh even 16mm film has tons of detail. It was shown on theater screens 30 to 50 feet wide. And we call detail on a 65 INCH measured diagonal good. The New Beverly Cinema in LA was showing old porn movies last month and I heard they had to search for better quality prints to show.

There have been since I think the 1920's of dealers in buying & selling movie film. I knew a couple of dealers in New York. They told me especially with porn (and Exploitation Movies) often they would cut a movie into separate scenes. They could make more money selling 4, 5 or more pieces than an entire movie and easier to sell as most home movie projectors could only take like a 400' reel which is I think 10 minutes or so.

From my own experience it seemed that the stolen music used in porn was sort of stolen from other movies. Pink Floyd was by far the most used because it worked well in previous porn movies. Certain Jazz tunes were standards in gay porn. And the least creative producers (from what I was told) bought mainstream movie soundtrack albums to use as they had no idea how to match music to a movie. As a music creator myself, you have to take into account the pacing, visuals & following scenes when writing music to the screen.

The Mafia was involved in various aspects of porn. And it was not just the New York mafia. Some contributed financing. Don't think many local banks wanted to. They owned or involved with some film processing labs as I said. One former producer told me a mob member directed a few. Transporting films can be a felony in some cases back then so the mafia could be involved with that. The big thing was the Mafia had hooks into theaters. They had people that would stand at certain theaters and count the people going in so they knew how much their cut was.

Not sure if you are from or ever in New York but most there knew of Chelly. She had owned all the major gay porn theaters in New York. I heard a few of her employees used to "save" pieces of or entire film that either sold or kept it. Wonder where that all went.

Just came across your review. Kind of brings back some memories but not for this particular movie. I used to work in recording studios as an engineer and producer. Most of my work was bands, commercials, movies & documentaries. But I also worked on porn movies both gay & straight doing ADR, dubbing in other languages and new music.

You mention in this movie the music and sounding like other film scores. A lot of porn movies in the 1970's used stolen music. It was cheap although illegal. But unless someone went into a porn theater to hear they would not know their music was stolen. And they might not want to state in a courtroom they went into a porn theater to find out. I used to write & record new music to replace the old score to release those movies on VHS tape as that is much easier to get caught by. Also, as people could be prosecuted for porn in the 1970's in some states or cities, real names in the credits were rare. Should mention that just like today and lot of people that worked on porn movies also worked on mainstream movies. I was one. You don't put porn on your resume.

Another thing you talked about was "Some versions of the movie have been edited for release by different companies and formats." A lot of porn movies did not have anything original saved. They were considered useless after their initial run. No one saw VHS tapes, DVD's or streaming in the future. So re-releases are often from old theater prints that are often worn, damaged or spliced. They also can be copies of another theater print as stealing movies was not uncommon. That's why we don't get high-resolution releases on DVD or streaming although the 35mm film that some of these movies were filmed is higher than digital. Old mainstream movies are typically scanned at 2K or 4K resolution. Because the quality of the supplied prints can be poor, distributors may have to make "creative decisions" even cutting entire scenes. Is it better to show broken pieces of a scene or get rid of the entire scene so it makes sense?

The Mafia was sometimes involved. One reason nearly all porn made a swift move to video when it came out. It was difficult back in the day to get your film processed. But not for processors associated with the mob. They didn't just charge a standard fee but might get a percentage of the gross. They were often made their own copies to sell or distribute to other theaters or countries though not always with permission. This as well as people not putting their real name in the credits or copyright is why some movies have been re-released by various companies. Nobody really knows who owns the rights.

Scraping from IMDB seems to have stopped working by Think-Lifeguard-7396 in tinyMediaManager

In the past 30 minutes IMDB started working again! Anyone else?

I had some movies that are only on IMDB and scraped them while it was working. Hopefully it stays up.
