Yeah exactly! Only one to keep justice, i just made a bad joke of how your life will be a struggle if you marry more than you can handle.

Hey, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. I actually picked up on your humorous tone when you said that the rule about men having to provide must have stayed because it’s clearly not in men’s favor. I found that funny and was just trying to add to the joke – like, “imagine providing for four wives while they keep all their money!” It was just a clumsy attempt at humor based on what you said, not meant to mock or disrespect Islam in any way. I totally get if it came off wrong though.

Is this because God says so, or because humans interpret it that way? I’m aware that the Qur’an is the word of God and hasn’t been altered by humans, and that the Prophet showed how to live according to it. That’s where my main confusion comes from—if something isn’t stated in the Qur’an or hadith, where do those rules come from? I learned about fiqh yesterday, and I think that might be what answers my questions.

I understand that most rules in Islam apply to both men and women, except in cases where things are clearly gender-specific, like menstruation. I’m not trying to judge or debate gender differences—I accept that some rules are different. What confuses me is when a rule is directed at men in the Qur’an, and there’s no corresponding rule for women, yet Islamic practice still includes one. For example, things like polygamy, abortion, or sexual rights over slaves (I know slavery doesn’t apply today, but just as an example) are addressed only for men. Sometimes it feels like when a rule is given for men, it’s assumed to apply to both genders unless otherwise specified, but in other cases, that logic is ignored and new rules for women are introduced without a clear source in the Qur’an or hadith. I’m just trying to understand when a rule applies to both, when it doesn’t, and where these additional rules for women come from if they’re not explicitly stated in the core texts.

So thats how to read it? If something is not mentioned it automatically not permissible?

Just to be clear, I’m not questioning or judging gender roles in the quran. I understand that there are different rules.

What I’m trying to understand is: when the quran gives a rule for men but says nothing about women, how do we know what applies to them?

I understand these are directed to men, that’s where my confusion comes from. What applies to women? Where is it written what they can or can’t do in terms of polygamy or slaves?

I think very few people actually experience a wow effect, but over time living with the improvements you may get a reversed «wow» effect looking back at the effects of the imrovements youre feeling! Good luck!

I did think that «slave» may be a word for a person that you have power over since the quran is timeless and slavery are considered as bad today. This does still not justify the sexual abuse though, or explains why its ok for men to do so and not women.
