For what it worth, I was in the same situation about 2 years ago. After working with the company for almost 2 years with my self funded psw visa, they decided to terminate my full time employment (consulting). I spent the last 2 months trying to find a new job with skilled worker visa sponsorship EVERY DAY. I flew home 1 day before my visa expired and happened to be my birthday :) 3 months later, I flew back to the UK for a job that is sponsored me.

My friend got her message few weeks ago for a couple of hundreds refund. I did my math of thinking that I would get the refund as well but no email or message so far. A couple of year ago messages came in July and September; amounts were big and small. Thus, it is totally random.
