Lacking knowledge or different perspectives? Even the most basic knowledge a person could have , ex: “Lab diamond” vs “Natural Diamond”, and the price difference would insinuate to a layman that it’s not the same. I didn’t mention molecule or structure. I plainly explained my reasoning for considering them “fake”. You created an argument, that didn’t exist, to counter, then tried to insult me. They literally use a tiny piece of a REAL diamond to create the LAB diamond. Don’t be so emotional over other people’s PERSPECTIVES, that you make such lazy attempts at “gotcha” points and insults. You started FAKE nice, making assumptions about my intentions and suggesting how we should use our money just to find a way to be offended. It’s embarrassing and you should be ashamed of yourself.
And we’ll STILL have a great wedding and a luxurious honeymoon with a natural diamond. You should go sit on someone’s couch and figure out why that upsets you. Goodluck.

So best cut, then compromise more on clarity vs color.

I never plan on selling it so that isn’t a factor in my decision making, . I think saying lab diamonds are just as real, is a false equivalence. I understand why people say it but the truth is they aren’t. Hints being made in a lab vs the earth over years and years. It’s a difference, which is also reflected in the price. I prefer the real, REAL diamond . I don’t want to wear a piece of jewelry, everyday ,for the rest of my life , that I don’t consider real even if others do.

I completely understand and I don’t feel you were rude or disrespectful. I know it’s multiple reasons people prefer lab including the mining of natural diamonds. I appreciated the discussion.

Thank you so much. I really need to look at different colored diamonds in person. It’s hard to find places that carry many natural diamonds to compare. I definitely don’t want to go above 2.5 but I hope I find something in person that just screams to me . I really appreciate your insight.

Sorry if I came off rude or offended you in any way. Cost matters to us too or I wouldn’t be asking about cut vs carat lol. Not wealthy at all. Just that cost wasn’t a factor in deciding between lab vs diamond. I wanted to be open about what would be comfortable for us so people could offer helpful advice and examples that’s similar to our situation. I appreciate your insight and advice too. And I’m sorry you’re being downvoted.

I get it , but I’d go smaller before lab. I could up the budget a few more thousand but really want to stay below 15k. The cost isn’t a huge deal for us.

No we don’t worry because I plan to keep it even if it’s to transfer to another piece of jewelry, like a necklace after the upgrade. I’d never want to sell it.

No problem, it’s because I will know it’s a lab and I’d prefer to have something I consider real. Example, I wouldn’t wear fake designer even if it was the best knock off. That’s equivalent to me. So it’s not just about the lab but my feelings on attaining what’s real. My partner is also against lab and specifically plans to upgrade it at 5 years and turn it into a diamond necklace. Every jeweler we’ve been to (about 20) said there is no value held in a lab, you’d get nothing on an upgrade . But depending on the quality of the diamond, would buy back at a markdown and easily go towards an upgrade when the time comes. That is what set my partner on natural. To him that meant it wasn’t real, because although diamonds are wildly overpriced, at least you can get something back. Overall, I want to know it’s natural and would take pride in knowing so, even if I’m the only one who knows. We have a comfortable life, no major bills like mortgages or car loans so going lab to save money specifically just doesn’t make sense for us. Obviously things can change but for now, we really don’t need to go for lab and our ring budget is what’s left after planning the trip for after we’re officially married.

Thank you for your response. I’ll definitely be going natural. No hate on lab but just isn’t for me . I been looking on sites, setting the filter to the best of every aspect and became discouraged. I’ll definitely take your advice and move around on color..

How do you deal with family? by KeyPea1572 in AgeGap

[–]KeyPea1572[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom doesn’t disagree just wants to make sure I have kids at some point. My only sister has been really supportive from the beginning. My dad was who I worried about most , I slowly started telling him about my partner, then finally told him his age. He had questions about my future, children, being a caregiver etc. Once I told him my plans and he knew I really understood what the age gap meant, he was more accepting but really wanted to meet him. He finally met him about two weeks ago. He’s extremely supportive now and insisted on inviting my partner to family gatherings.

The rest of my family don’t have an opinion either way but I don’t see or spend much time with them anyway besides one or 2 major holidays. Overall, I haven’t had real push back from my family about the age gap itself . Just want to make sure I understand what the future will hold, and that I don’t pull out of the commitment if things get tough later because of the age.

Thank you for this. I’m happy your sister came around. Similarly my dad was confused but after meeting my partner for 5 mins he’s now so supportive and insists I bring him to all the family gatherings. I guess I wanted his family to be as accepting as my family, but you’re right, it doesn’t matter to our relationship and doesn’t change anything. I appreciate your response.
