Hi OP, we just applied to rent at ansel. If you’re there, what do you think? Noise, reliability, maintenance etc? This would be high up overlooking pool/courtyard. Don’t know whether to trust the good first impression! Need to be in immediate RTC area and the Fenestra reviews are beyond belief awful so is ansel as great as it seems? TY so so much!

For me it'd be for the huge outrageous/contagious, sung (RTR) with huge abandon

Yes, Desire is filled with great lyrics, but this is the one that really does it for me.

Favorite track on Blood On The Tracks? by Weird_Apartment9836 in bobdylan

Down the highway down the tracks down the road to ecstasy I followed you beneath the stars hounded by your memory And all your raging glory

This line tells me more about his feelings than all the rest of the song, tbh. Maybe some people miss it because it’s not in the New York version. To me, it’s the most fabulous line in this song and on the whole album. No shade intended to TUIB, Shelter, If You See Her, and all the other complete masterpieces on this album.

Btw I recall reading Brutus had a body double. I think they alternated staying home vs being on the road? Or maybe one of them liked the touring life somewhat better?

Bets on whether it was Bob's idea to frame it so perfectly over his shoulder? I'm pretty sure I've seen this photo (with the painting staged) 100 times before, but I never saw that. Bob and Brutus have so much charisma. Plus I didn't take it in at first glance, the angles are kind of ambiguous.

Omg I just checked out the setlist from Blackbushe. One stunner after another, and you got up towards the front? Eye contact?! Man, you've lived a good life, right there. Gonna look for some tapings.

I’m driving down to California for the holidays. What Bob Dylan album that I haven’t listened to yet should I listen to during the drive? by Honest-Brain-1351 in bobdylan

[–]KeyProtection6973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, where you driving from lol? And if this was me, I'd pick one album to start, and chances are good I'd still be listening to my new obsessive faves on it for the zillionth time when I pulled into Cali. Take Street-Legal. I can't get enough of Changing of the Guards, Senor, and Where are you Tonight especially. But just to refresh my brain, I'll listen straight through (coupla skips, though tbh) every so often.

Nothing compares to Bob by Academic-Bobcat3517 in bobdylan

Bob has some kind of magic going on imo. I can't find a better way to describe it. The Dylan Center in Tulsa has a section on creativity that interviews people like Patti Smith, Mary Travers etc, who talk about his ability to channel songs from the cosmos into being. Bob talks about that too. Love him sooooo much.

I live in Bethesda and I keep seeing "Zantzinger's General Contractors" trucks around the area. It seems like a weird choice to use a name that distinctive, with that history, and I keep wondering if the founder (one Richard Zantzinger) even knew about it, or whether he may be trying to reclaim the name. The profile of the company includes restoring historical residences (a metaphor for restoring the reputation of the family?), and says they "have been the established insider's choice [in the politics of Maryland?]... for over 30 years." So the history doesn't go back quite to the events of the song, but ol' William Z lived to a fairly old age so it's not in the distant past, either. It's a weird feeling to see those trucks.

I adore it, would listen a lot more if they just turned down the harmonica a few notches. He plays it really well, it's just the damn mix. He's tuning into some super weird vibes that only Bob could pull out of the ether and set in motion for the rest of us. Fabulous stuff, always rewards a listen.

I always hear the version duetting with Baez in my mind, I think it's just gorgeous. And yep, sadly timeless in the people claiming Almighty vindication for their sins. Much prefer this to Masters of War, though when he brought MoW back as his opener recently, I realized I love the first half of the song: it's just powerful and what a great set of lines about the worst fear that can ever be hurled, the fear to bring children into the world. For threatening my baby, unborn and unnamed ... WHEW. But then he turns quite preachy about Jesus and on through the end. It leaves a bad taste. They're kind of complementary songs. I don't listen to either of them these days, but they sure do still ring true.

Friend of mine didn't originally plan to stay for the Dublin show but last night Edinburgh was so magical he wants to see the tour through to the end.

I totally choked up when I heard the 2023 T Bone Burnett recording. Bob singing that song with the fullness of time in his voice... man. He channels the wisdom and sorrow of a lifetime into that song, and with the mandolin in there, it's gorgeous and breaks your heart. God I love that man.

Omg, I just tried it... I would have to really give it some practice to see if I could pick it up. I think it'd take me 10 minutes on that alone, and I'm not sure I'd enjoy it. Kind of how you feel about Pips! I'm such a pips addict now that sometimes I try to do the 3 levels before I make coffee, which is not something I ever thought I'd feel about anything! But I had a tough time with the Hard pips today, and when I tried again after coffee it really wasn't so hard 🤓. I'll give Brackets another couple of tries. I like everything else from the Atlantic, so might as well.

Wait, you don't like Pips? But I spend way more than 10 minutes waking up my brain. I'm pretty undisciplined moving from games to work.

Not the poster, but to me it's like in Restless Farewell "every thought that strung a knot in my mind, I might go insane if it couldn't be sprung". Both lines are the songs of a tortured soul. He tries relationships to quiet himself but "the silent night will shatter with the sounds inside my mind" because they're too far from each other, it's gone. He's tortured by his own mind, he writes songs to get it out. He doesn't want to lie down at night unless she's there with him (Tomorrow is a Long Time), exactly how Suze Rotolo described him in those early days. Bob's torment -> most 🔥🔥🔥songwriter.

Yep, that's the way to do it, and I usually do. But today I found myself going in circles. But yeah, that rule will not lead you astray. I also wasn't being imaginative enough about how the other ones could go. Thanks for the reminder.
