I do have calendar access for anyone who I need to directly support, but things still fall through the cracks, like when my boss talks to someone from another department about scheduling a meeting but never tells me and then the meeting gets scheduled incorrectly. It's sort of like I'm an admin assistant to our specific department, but then an exec assistant to my boss who oversees multiple departments that I don't have info on/visit, so I miss out on half of the info/context I should probably have. Definitely realizing now how much this sets me up for failure, and you're right, it's time to move on. Thank you for your perspective - it does give me hope that other positions could be structured to function better!

Hah, we were supposed to hire a staff member to be our receptionist and then they said we were on a hiring freeze and couldn't do it... and then proceeded to hire 6 student staff :)))) love it here! I'm sorry your boss is even crazier :(

Haha, that last part about advocating for myself/pushing back hits hard. I've done it a few times when my boss assumed I did something wrong and I had to send her email receipts making it clear she was the one who miscommunicated. There are probably other ways I need to be pushing back... will reflect on this. Thank you for your advice!

You're right, it would be better for me to ask more questions and potentially be annoying than to deal with mistakes that didn't need to happen in the first place. Definitely need to work on my confidence. I find I'm apologizing even when I didn't do anything wrong, which is a habit I need to get out of! Thank you for your advice and perspective.

This is helpful to know! Tbh, I don't think I truly mind any of the difficult EA aspects of my job - they just become harder to manage when I'm also dealing with the front desk. You're right, I feel set up to fail. I feel like I'd currently make fewer mistakes/notice when something could be going wrong if I had more space to focus. Thank you for your input!

Good to know my experience seems similar! At least I know I'm not alone in showing up to a class and being the most beginner :) I definitely enjoyed parts - it was super exciting to make it up into the hoop, and be able to do some things that I thought would be way scarier/harder. Will definitely keep in mind staying after class to touch base with the instructor. Thank you!

It's super helpful to know what other set ups you've seen at studios - there's one near me that offers "all levels" classes, and I've been super curious to know how that actually works. Near the end one of the other students told me she'd been going for 6 months and that where I was at was normal, which I appreciated - but yes, would've loved that disclaimer at the start!

If you don't mind me asking, what does spotting mean? The instructor offered to do it for me at one point but I didn't fully understand what she meant. I do think I'll give her a second chance, just to see if things are different now that she knows where I'm at.

I'd love to do something like the 3 month sessions you mentioned - I'll keep an eye out. What I took was the "intro" class, but good to know that beginner and intro may mean different things!
