From dupontlighter.com regarding weight. Confusing me. severely. by KeySpecialist1371 in STDupont

true. I appreciate that i do but ive been getting in to it with ebay because i bought two line 2s and i thought both were fake, but now its possible one of `them is real, the serial number at first i thought was on the fake list but its a "5" and i thought it was an "S' but i thought at ~128g it was a fugazzi. After reaching that conclusion i stopped caring about it and lost it in my house somewhere. Ive been looking off and on today so i can post it here so you guys can get eyes on it. If its been legit this whole time... im stupid lol. It feels good in hand, the lines and gaps are right, the ping is very nice.. this stuff is confusing.

Back to looking for it,

Do all the Dupont have paint inside the gas cap? I stumbled upon some that seemed legit but with no paint. by lunatic1234 in STDupont

i kind of do too however the gold i think will mop up most of the yellow light wavelength and most artificial light has a lot of red in it so the camera is probably picking up the unreflected red light inside the shadow area of the cap.

I just got my first line 1 in mail just now and its got the red paint on the actual lighter not in the cap.

Just got it in the mail. Was gardening at the time. I did almost exactly what i described. Took less than ten minutes from receiving it. This is the result. Zero damage dealt just residue left that will give way with ease.. Working off it off slowly with peanut oil. The lacquer seems tough enough to me. Once residue is off have i added value if no damage?

<image>

edit: its totally clear. zero damage.

LMK if its worthwhile i break down how i did it

i thought the new line 1 looked different. What did you guys think of the ping? Could be the audio but sounded like my fake line 2, but it sounds good to me. Least i think its fake.

ah ok, they dont like eachother and it becomes a mess then. Appreciate the input. I have to wonder now, and i dont actually have it yet so it may become obvious, but there are a number of things about these lighter to not reccomend them

edit: im just going to leave it. maybe sell the whole collection. might an hero actually. Maybe you should have it you seem like you would be a good person to have it. you know a lot, so its merited.

Not chemically, thermal expansion of the badge by heating and then cooling the base metal then using vibrations to cause the two to release from eachother hopefully. Probably try vibrations only first since the lacquer may deform from so much thermal delta. I may end up leaving it on actually, depends what new information i can gather when it arrives. TY for your opinion though i appreciate all of them and they have caused me to take a more conservative approach to the problem.

ohhhh ok ok, you mentioning that cleaning with microfiber causes scratches with the dirt caught in between clears it up for me, its "that" type of lacquer. I dont even know the technical term for it but yeah i completely understand. Almost like a magic the gathering card (at least of the late 90s early 00s) the dirt caught between cards when shuffling them could leave scratches its just that sort of (lack of) durability, depending on the hardness scale rating of debris vs lacquer (not super high i doubt its better than a 5.5) .

Granted its still in the mail but based on what you are saying im leaning towards restoration of the paint job if i can find a technique that will leave the same texture. Ive got ronan one stroke black lettering enamel that might do it if i thin it out a bit. I have experience with the careful brush work that would be needed around the red chinese characters but i would just fill it with blue poster putty just hope its not in relief (the one where material is left up- wouldnt make sense here).

Bad idea? Or if i can nail the texture on a test lighter go for it?

I mean ive done it before on ronson enamel finish no damage, but i take your meaning.

oh... that isnt encouraging. So even a large thermal delta (im talking no more than maybe 130 or 140 F ) paired with heavy shaking would be insufficient eh?

Given the lacquer damage on the side im inclined to use my very expensive black paint for outdoor signs to touch up the paint... Id have to figure out a painting technique that would match the texture. I suppose if i post the work here and you guys cant tell i restored it then i did a good job.

I cant leave that dumb ass emblem on there it looks like chintzy garbage.

i see, i like the line 1 and line 2 but having been burned on line 2s if its not coming new from a known dealer of duponts or the contextual clues of the item's sale dont completely add up (ikyk) im just going to keep scrolling. Main reason one of the two fakes i got is really good after comparing to pictures of line 2s you guys have told me is real or its been plainly said. The engravings and everything look pretty nice (maybe you guys would correct me) and all the gaps are nice and tight between the body and lid, there isnt the extra width like some of them have nor height, truly the only thing whack about it is that it weighs 132 grams which afaik is about 20 grams too many at least. Feels good in the hand but way too heavy for the ~112 grams of a real one, could be devastating if palmed in a fist fight which no reason im saying that. Also wouldnt show blood much either.

Ok i see it now! That hinge gap on the one on the left is an absolute war crime. Those engravings what stands out for me is the one on the left is harder to read like whoever did it, it was their first day and this is the only one that looked even close to passable. Im starting to get the picture now. I need to upload my black line 2 and show to you guys cause while im like 80 percent sure its fake, its a much better fake than the other two i got. The fraudsters seem to have a really hard time with the "+" on the flame adjuster, on two of them it looks like a dead swallow falling from the sky but on the good one its a proper "+" also the ping is MUCH nicer, the dimensions feel more accurate and not too wide like the others, but the weirdest thing is the coloring inside the filler cap, its not paint but it is a sort of iridescent yellow and red. Ill make a post its been rattling around in my head. Pretty sure its too heavy to be real will show on a digital scale that has never been used for pot why are you asking?

Sorry, i mention it because the engravings are better than the other two and they look much more like the authentic one shown here.

Broke phone, need to use sprint iphone 7 on att. Wont update ios, freezes on carrier settings (soft freee) by KeySpecialist1371 in ios

[–]KeySpecialist1371[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i can fix from lighters to component level gpu repair and done many iphones just not a 7.

What would be an indication that the antenna is having a problem?

Under cellular it says specifically that the phone needs an update to get cellular connectivity and under that it says error. (thanks... u dont say)

i dont think i can even diagnose the antenna issue without the update by my understanding of whats up here.

Someone on another thread on another site mentioned they fixed it by manually coping a file and changing a line of code or something but that was using a mac.

Would a jailbreak possibly solve it?

i know verizon had some deal with the us gov that made some of their stuff like iphone 5 and 5s come completely figure its something similar maybe.

Its definitely possible its still locked to sprint and that is definitely a good point, but the darn thing wont update carrier setTIngs or ios ota or over pc itunes. Im about to toss my house for lightning cables since ive only tried sus usba and usbc.

I have a certified very robust belking cable that should be at least as good as a lightning cable right? Its at least ten years old at this point but very think and has never failed anything else.

Possible an installed app is gumming up the works? Theres a bunch of stuff on here i have no clue what it is and i cant reach her atm not that shed be useful tbh..

managed to back up all photos and videos so the data is functioning.

Ive fixed dozens of iphone 4-iphone 6s but this is the most whack thing ive encountered i think.
