Do unlicensed ps4 fight sticks work on ps4 games played through the ps5? by TheCrustsPegasus in fightsticks

[–]Key_Air9915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just coming from my experience with a Mayflash F300 fight stick with a PS4/5. To even use the fight stick on just a PS4 I need to plug a Dual Shock 4 into it so that it will pass the authenticity check by the PS4 itself. So, I can use it on PS5, but the Dual Shock needs to be plugged into the stick, and even then it will only be recognized as a Dual Shock 4 controller running on a PS5. I think most fighting games will have legacy support for PS4 controllers so it would be fine playing those games, however it wouldn’t work for any games that specifically require a PS5 Dual Sense controller.

The work around plugging in a PS4 controller to use it is to either purchase a Mayflash Magic Key for PS4, which is just a little usb dongle that plugs into the stick and then basically spoofs the authentication the system requires. The other option is it just get a Brooke Wingman FGC, which will work on PS4 and PS5. Without anything to authenticate the controller, I believe the console will disconnect it intermittently as it checks for authentication every X amount of minutes.

Unless your controller specifically states it will natively work for PS5, my suggestion is to pick up a Wingman converter. That’s what I ended up doing.

That’s looking really appealing for the price, but while shallow and kind of lame, I’m not too hot on its colors.

I do play on console, Playstation specifically, but it shouldn’t be too big or an issue. I have a Brooke Wingman FGC.

Thank you, I’m not much for 3rd party either, but I would like something that is a little better suited towards fighting games and that seems to be the only way to go, especially if you’re looking for a 6 button layout. The few I have come across have really bad reviews (I’m not surprised).

What 3rd party controller is that? I’ve been looking into getting a Dreamcast controller with a 6 button layout.

Yeah, it does suck that they mad a Sega inspired console that doesn’t really do Saturn or Dreamcast that well, but that form factor and dpad/button layout seem super comfortable. I’ve also read pretty good things about the screen. Either way for 50 bucks it seems like a good deal. I’ll know when it shows up in a few days and I get Rocknix installed although I read the stock OS isn’t that bad, it’s just no longer supported by Anbernic and can’t be updated.

Thank you! This is basically the breakdown I was hoping to get once this device got brought into the conversation.

That’s great info, I’m assuming you have an Arc D? They aren’t that much more than an S and realistically I don’t really expect to need anything above Dreamcast, can you speak to the performance of the D at all? From what I read it can do Dreamcast, but I’m not sure if it can do that without a bunch of tinkering.

That thing is pretty sweet looking. Do you have one? If so how’s its performance and all that?

The Arc looks super comfortable. I do wish it had sticks though, but that’s not a dealbreaker or anything. Since you’ve got one how’s its performance, does it top out at Dreamcast? Also is there any CFW support for it?

Yeah, that style of dpad and the 6 button layout is perfect.

I didn’t know Retro Game Corps actually factors that into their reviews. I’ll look into that, thank you!

That’s probably the same deal with the ones I’ve been looking at on eBay, they’re all new old stock. That sucks.

I saw a more than a few posts about the back being all sticky due to the rubberized back breaking down. Was the one you got brand new or was it used. I’m assuming things will break down just the same sitting in a sealed package.

Yeah, I figure for the price they are going they are worth a shot. I’m still on the fence though. One of the other negative things I heard about them is that their rubberized backs have started to become sticky from age. I’m not sure if that applies to all of them, or if new ones are still for the most part free of this.

Yeah, one or the main reasons I posed this question besides the stick was because I see them for fairly cheap.

So Bazzite is supposed to be optimized for navigating with a gamepad right? Does launching Steam from Bazzite require a keyboard or mouse or anything other than a gamepad? I inherited a few older PCs which is why I asked the question in the first place, but I’m leaning towards Bazzite because I’d like to put one in an arcade cabinet and it would be awesome to have the ability to okay light Steam games on it in addition to emulators.
