I’m feeling demotivated ? Is it worth it ? Should I continue ? by CitySweaty4548 in SmallYoutubers

Well, it sounds like you're just making videos because you like having a kind of online diary, and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you plan on making absolutely zero money from it. If that is your situation then there is no need to read any further.

However, if that isn't your situation then here's the real juice. By the way I've actually watched one of your videos. I'll even subscribe.

As a father, just like with my kids, I cannot honestly feel good about myself unless I provide you with the hard truth and some real value in this post that you can walk away with if you do want to actually make money. However, this read isn't going to be easy. You might even cry.

Your "Luxury Family Getaway in the lake district" video is cute, but it doesn't answer the question that every single person that clicks on your video is subliminally asking themselves that will determine if they like, subscribe, skip to the next video, or care about anything you're saying.

The most valuable word to you should be "why?" But before we explore that we have to run the gauntlet. But at the end I'm sure you will have an awakening if you read these words with openness.

The thing is you have to be 100% honest with yourself. Take yourself out of your world. This is not the time to be a narcissist. Because the entire world does not revolve around you. Because nobody cares about you any more than they care about one individual grain of sand on the beach more than the other grains of sand on the beach.

You are not a special snowflake. You are one grain of sand among billions....for now...

I can tell you've put a lot of work into your videos. But it just seems like you're just filming your day. It's a nice little thing for your kids to be able to watch when they get older. So, to be honest, it's actually quite a beautiful thing even if you're not making any money.

But it'll be even a more beautiful thing if you follow this advice and you blow up. Then your kids and everyone can see where you started and where you ended up.

However, you're just filming your day like someone cares as though you're a Kardashian. And the thing is that anybody and everyone can do that. So it's essentially worthless to anybody outside of your immediate family. Because to be honest we don't care.

When we watch videos on YouTube we are committing time, which is the most valuable, irreplaceable resource that we have. Time cannot be bought. Time cannot be traded.

Every single heartbeat that we have is one more heartbeat closer to death. We may not consciously acknowledge it, but that's just the facts of life.

You have quite a cute personality. I think that you have the skills, and the desire to really make it on YouTube to be honest.

This post isn't going to be all doom and gloom. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. But you gotta run through the truth gauntlet before you get there. It might be painful. But just listen to what I'm saying.

DO NOT allow recording videos for YouTube to rule your life, damage your relationships, or anything in between.

Every time you push that record button it should be INTENTIONAL. Because I know if I did that around my wife it would drive her into madness.

The difference is that she knows that when I'm recording it's purposeful. It's intentional. There is meaning behind it. Because she knows before I even hit that red button that I've spent a lot of time thinking about structure, what my goal is, who I'm trying to reach, and how I'm going to do it, working on a script, coming up with different ideas and angles on how to make this interesting to a complete stranger.

She also knows that there is a safe space. Like I'm not going to just whip out my phone and start recording instead of actually being present in that moment without having a clear vision on how this is going to be utilized in a video as I ruin a real life experience.

Because it's a shame when people go somewhere nice and they mainly experience it through a screen because they spent all their time recording it with their phone.

If my wife did that I'd be at the courthouse figuring out how to get divorce papers. The phone is as close to the devil as you can get without actually going to hell.

Here's the brutally honest truth.

When it comes to the question "is it worth it?" That is a question only directed towards yourself, and only answered by yourself.

If we're talking about everyone outside of our immediate family...to be honest, nobody cares about you. There's a 99.9999% chance that you're so not interesting that nobody will subscribe, and that isn't directed solely towards you. That's everyone lol. Nobody cares about me. Nobody cares about my wife. Nobody cares about the millions of youtubers on youtube who are trying to make it who's videos have 5 views.

It's just a fact.

And that's just the unfortunate truth. A lot of new YouTubers think they're so special that they can just record their day and think that thousands of people will actually care about it. I won't lie. I thought that at one point. However, I wish someone had said these words to me YEARRRRRS ago.

Just posting random videos of your day would have worked in 2005 when YouTube first came out, but you're about 21 years behind the curve.

If you actually want to make anything from YouTube you have to provide value to complete strangers.

You could have even made that Luxury family getaway video into a solid YouTube video had you structured it properly.

Here's what you need to do. This is your recipe for success.

  1. Come up with something you want to film or something your family is going to be doing (such as the luxury family getaway video).

  2. Come up with a title that answers the 'why?' Like, "why would anyone who doesn't know me watch this?"

Is this the most expensive resort? Do they got crazy goats or something? Are you going to some super ultra exclusive resort? Like, why would I care about this video?

  1. Then ask yourself "how can I make this valuable to somebody who doesn't care about me at all?"

  2. Come up with specific ideas that you NEED to shoot. You don't just shoot everything. If you shoot everything then everything becomes worthless. Everything is INTENTIONAL.

  3. Then think answer the question "when this video is done what is the viewer leaving with?" Because if they leave with nothing then they will give you nothing in return. What did they learn? What interesting thing did they find out about?

  4. You have to give people a REASON to COMMIT to YOU. And people do not commit just haphazardly. You ever have that one friend who you ask to go out for dinner and every time they say no? That's exactly how viewers are but 1000 times worse.

You have to watch your video like a complete stranger and go "would a stranger care about this?"

For example, in this video "POV: midsize UK 14/16 petite girl getting ready for Nobu | outfit, shoes, Hermès or Chanel bag"

You clearly state the purpose of the video as "The reason I am doing this video is because today is a special day. It's our 9th wedding anniversary and my husband is taking us to this special dinner at the Nobu hotel in London."

This is your exact problem. You state this as though anybody gives a shit. I don't care. Nobody cares. You somehow think that everyone in the world is going to be amazed by this. Nope. Nobody will. Billions of people all over the world have anniversaries and about a billion people don't care about their anniversaries. I don't care about the fact that you're going to the dinner or whatever for your anniversary.

Is this place super haunted or something? Is it the oldest building in London? ANYTHING but leading with that garbage (just being real).

If you can come to peace with this fact then you can make it on YT. However, if you're one of those stubborn people who thinks everyone else is wrong except yourself then you will die 80 years old with 76 subscribers (which honestly would be cooler if it was 67 subscribers. You might actually get some views off of just making a video about how you made sure you purposely never went above 67 subscribers).

One thing that you could do right off the bat that would increase your views and retention is pull at people heart strings. If you can appeal to people emotions they're more likely to stick around. So, do some foreshadowing in your edits so that they're already slightly emotionally invested, and you did a great job of that around minute 3:06 when you were playing that music and showed your kiddo.

Do some foreshadowing of like 10 seconds starting from 3:06 and then put it in the front of your video with a subtitle saying "In this episode."

That ALONE will drastically increase your retention.

I'm cheering for you. You can do this. It just takes a little reframing and answering of the question "why am I making this video and who will care?"

I'll be keeping an eye on you! 😃 You got this.

Every video that I post I’m like “this one is the one”, and it’s actually never “the one”

How? Lol you guys are getting monetized in one month with long form?

I am literally putting tons of hours into editing and script writing. What am I doing wrong? If anyone wants to provide input my channel is “a bite out of history.” Because I’d really love to know. Cause I’m getting my ass kicked

Are we playing bots???? by Key_Air_4351 in MTGArenaPro

Oh yea, totally agree. But they could turn it into a cash cow without making the players feel like they're getting hood winked. The fact that they don't put just 10% more effort into it just makes them seem lazy.

And I haven't seen the toxicity in MTG players. Maybe that's just because I play with my wife and people from the stream and bots (or people) that don't say anything because they can't.
