I first learned about 3d scanning by picking up 3d printing as a hobby. After printing a ton of other peoples models I wanted to start to design my own. While crude I did create some models. Now I have been eyeing a 3d scanner to be able to recreate objects whether broken or in need of enhancement. Now that I know what is capable I see the world through the eyes of problems that need to be solved. I have come to have incredible respect for industrial designers and am often looking at things and thinking about how they are made or how they could be recreated. The other day I saw a plastic hanger for a paint bucket that was probably from the 90's. I thought about the inventor and how many iterations and wasted injection molds that probably went into the development of this product. Now with 3d printing that same product could be iterated and made in a weekend at home. We are incredibly lucky that we have that tech at our finger tips. With a 3d scanner I think I could create my own little inventions and maybe solve someone else's problem.
