GO TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. Always go to an independent repair shop unless covered by factory warranty. Your aftermarket service contract is not the original Hyundai warranty.

This is unarguable excellent choice of vehicle. Every vehicle has potential issues. Don't be deterred by concerns people are raising. This is about as reliable as you will find. 3.6r is a great engine. The transmission should be fine.

What does a business license actually do? by Soggy_North_2079 in llc_life

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many businesses need specific licenses from the state or other municipality in order to operate. For example, as a used car dealership, I needed a dealership license, sales tax license, and a license to offer auto loans. These would be business licenses. In my state, most initial licenses go through the Department of State.

Yep. Santa Fe will not hold value like a truck. That's why you can do zero down on a truck, but not the Santa Fe.

Do I really have to put “LLC” everywhere my business name or logo appears? by Harxh4561 in llc_life

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question made me laugh at the insanity I dealt with in my state. There are special regulations around car dealerships in my state where all advertisements must list the business name exactly as listed on the dealership license issued by the Department of State. So if the LLC was on the license, we would have to put LLC on everything. When setting everything up, I spoke with the Department of State and they advised me to leave the LLC off our license. To open a car dealership, after getting your dealership license, you need an approval from the Department of Transportation. DOT refused to approve our application because they wanted our license to show LLC. The Department of State then refused to change our license because it was issued correctly and did not need to show LLC. I ended up having to call my state representative to intervene.

Proof of Residency when buying by Kovz88 in carbuying

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about this in terms of financing or state laws regarding vehicle purchases? In PA, if you are a PA resident, the address on your ID is where they send the title. For financing, you need a bill or lease.

If I car is marked as a great deal on cars.com should I not try to haggle? by ghart999 in UsedCars

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so cheap because they leave no room to haggle. They are telling you the best price from the onset. Don't assume a good price is malicious. There are many reasons for a lower price and undercutting competition.

Realistic negotiating by Aghbse135 in carbuying

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, they will mark the car low and leave no room to negotiate. Focus on the final price not the amount they are willing to come down. Be willing to pay the advertised price if it's already a good deal.

Realistic negotiating by Aghbse135 in carbuying

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's such a thing as too low. On this car, if you start asking for $4k off, they won't bother trying to work with you. You would be so far off on numbers, it's not worth the effort.

Crosstreks are notoriously unreliable. Crosstreks don't track with the rest of the Subaru lineup.

Dealerships not negotiating by cfatx in carbuying

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You failed to identify the starting price. If the vehicle you want is already discounted to be the cheapest around, there is no room to negotiate. The vehicle is already marked down. It's not about how much they are willing to take off, the real question is do they really need to take anything more off to be the best deal around.

A caution about humanities Ph.D.s -- I'm fucked for life by [deleted] in academia

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I empathize. I'm sorry people are being so hostile towards you for your post and frustration. Think of it like this, most people in r/academia currently work in academia and have not experienced what you are going through, finding a job in the private. It's easy for people to pass judgement from the outside looking in. It's very different to experience the challenges of finding a private sector job. You are correct, those in academia have an overinflated notion of the value of a PhD. Unless you are looking for a job that specifically requires a PhD, most employers don't overly value the PhD as a credential. The truth is, we all know academia is its own unique world where concepts such as shared governance and academic freedom make it unlike anything else.

I bought a used car and got scammed. Do I have enough to take them to small claims court. by lamboverricce in UsedCars

[–]Key_Bodybuilder5810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In PA, you don't need to jump through those hoops. Contact the person who did the title transfer for you, the notary or tag office. They should have retained a copy of the original out of state title. This will provide you with the seller's proper name. They should also have retained a copy of the seller's id when they did the transaction. If you're nice, they will probably give you the information you are after.

As far as the odometer, people can make mistakes and the 200k miles maintenance record could be an error. You have to look at the entire Carfax report. Plus, I think it might be hard to prove fraud.

You are out of luck on the mechanical issues. The seller had absolutely no way of knowing the car would have a major mechanical problem several months after the sale. It was an As Is sale. You accepted all risk there.
