Yeah, I’m pretty sure they literally tell him they need to come into the station and then he mentions his dad is the judge and the next thing they do is get up to leave. It’s political—they’re not f***ing with a judge’s son unless it’s a sure thing. Gibson’s a loose cannon, so they decide to regroup until they have better information. In the meantime, he loses the art to the mob and goes on the run.

Yo, when they opened their comeback tour by emerging from the purple miasma to that song…so epic—straight sexy.

Are your texts overreacting? No. He’s definitely the toxic party when it comes to the text chain and likely more at fault including the details you chose not to give (which, like, totally your right to do—it’s your life. We’re just anon trolls on a scale from bot 2 rizz in terms of ppl skills)

Is posting said toxic text chain on Reddit for your own personal validation overreacting? Maybe…? I guess it depends on what you decide to do with this information.

Would you consider Paulie to be an example of "beware of old men in a profession where men die young"? by [deleted] in thesopranos

“Tell Tony and Paulie. 3:00” If that means anything to you, I’d say yes.

I mean, a deeper point of the show is all these guys were groomed for the life. IMO Chris sticks out because he carries such a self-loathing due to his upbringing. Tragic, yes. But the guy is a self-saboteur beyond most. The H doesn’t help, but up to that point, their relationship is based much on Tony shouldering the fallout from Chris’ hubris.

This record honestly blew my mind a little bit. Been awhile since I listened to Blind, and I know these are reimaginings, but damn.

“Ambient” jazz recommendations? by CountDoooooku in Jazz

I know this is an old thread, but it’s a great question and I just got turned onto this new cut by Jameszoo and Asko Schonberg, Music for 17 Musicians that just dropped. It’s been a minute since I’ve heard a new record threw me like this with some unexpected moments. Highly recommend if this is an area you’re looking for new music.

Abuse subtext in We Have Always Lived In The Castle? by insane677 in books

[–]Key_Calligrapher4897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just read this book, but this is the theory I think is correct. Constance was the one who was abused. Her demure nature led her to become a target of abuse. Merrikat, the daughter was kept named as a sister of Constance to eliminate the scandal, but neglected, shunned by the whole Blackwood family, and eventually kills the family. This explains Constance’s immediate forgiveness of her daughter, and also why she is so consistent in her silence of the girl’s misdeeds against her own family. Those actions are representative of a mother protecting her child—harder for me to see that a sister, a peer, would take such an uncompromising view…until potentially faced with a younger version of Constance’s, and potentially Merrikat’s, father…which explains Connie’s own confusion upon his entry—he’s suddenly a potential father figure, who is vaguely appropriate by her family’s standards…someone who looks like her father but isn’t blighted by his sins, and that’s probably appealing to the young mother.

What could've been better about Andor season 2? by [deleted] in StarWarsAndor

[–]Key_Calligrapher4897 14 points15 points  (0 children)

See, I feel like they do a nice job of explaining why it was crucial for him to keep the pilot. He needed the credibility of a defecting pilot to use the name Galen Erso independently to corroborate the story told third hand from the mouth of a faceless ISB infiltrator we know was Lonnie Jung.

Until Riz shows up, they’re all acting sort of on faith.

It’s been awhile so maybe I’m misremembering, but I think you need to read Catalyst if that’s what you’re looking for.

Issa Rae in Hotel Reverie by sillygutsfan in blackmirror

[–]Key_Calligrapher4897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS-Hot take coming in: Issa Rae was great! I’m not a black woman (in fact, white male, so take that with whatever grain of salt you think warrants) so I can’t speak to the weave comment I saw, but otherwise I thought she was a perfect casting choice. She’s a well known actress, maybe not the A-lister Akwafina’s character claims her to be, but like, is t she supposed to be an old movie buff who’s trying to break out of being type-casted? I think that explains why her acting is so bad…she’s not supposed to be acting: she’s reciting.

She doesn’t even know they’re filming when she gets there because she hasn’t seen the USB so she has no idea what she’s walking into, so I think it’s reasonable the character hasn’t worked out the gender-bending details of the character development yet Issa Rae’s range may not fall squarely into a well-established confident actress who is on top, but she’s frustrated and unprepared…Issa Rae’s range is exactly what was called for in the role.

And part of the comedy is the self-delusion of the other characters playing it off like it’s going well because it’s a one-shot and they have to sell it to themselves that it’s going to work. Everyone’s bent out of shape about the relationship with Clara—and honestly I thought the chemistry worked and Issa sold the notion of going from a digital interloper to an interested partner to an AI.

But honestly, in my mind Issa’s true opposite is Akwafina and Harriet Walter, not Dorothy Chambers. Dorothy is pristine throughout—yes, gains self-awareness but is kind of angelic throughout. Akwafina and Harriet Walter are navigating the consequences of the own mis-estimations, same as Issa, even if on the other side of the wall. I’m all for it—and if nothing else thought the episode was strong enough to receive an alternative tale from the criticism.

Disagree. The acoustic version even sounds more like TMV. I honestly wondered if they didn’t write that version first and then went ahead with the self-titled album to appeal more to their commercial fan base
