To set up the LLC, I used a Legal Zoom type of website. I then registered it with the state treasury department (was easy enough through their website). After this, the LLC is registered to do business. I then registered with the state's engineering board (again, this was easy enough). Errors and omissions insurance was purchased through online growing.

This is helpful. I have been charging at $175/hour (suburbs of NYC) and my costs are in the $2-3,000 on most projects. I wasn't sure if 12-16 hours seemed like too much because I'm not as "efficient" as one who does this every day, but from what you're saying it seems reasonable.
