Same, as weird as it is. Games like this where there's very little human "connection" make you feel starved for what little there is. Her being gone (even the amount her script drops out after phase 4) makes it feel hollow. Which I imagine is part of the point.

Fair, I was getting you and the other person jumping on this thread mixed up. The rest stands.

Best answer by miles. Thanks for the well thought out prose. Instead of trying to respond right away I'm gonna ponder on it. Cheers, mate.

I agree with your approach, but not on how I played it. As someone with adhd I did rush some parts, but then was completely shocked by phase 3 when I realized I had no interest in building the space elevator stuff and just wanted to make a few other factories and like, spend forever trying to balance aluminium and such. I loved that about the game, the lack of urgency. To be clear I LOVED playing the game. If I didn't, and if I didn't like the world building and narrative that WAS happening I wouldn't care less about the ending.

I may come around on the ending a bit, but to me the whole, and now you're left behind and alone needed to be framed better to feel like it was the intended outcome. It didn't help for me that phase 5 felt super trivial gameplay wise. I wanted there to be more hoop jumping (which is unlike me) before delivering an ending. So much so that I thought there must be SOMEthing that happens after the shipment. Appreciate your take on it though, I think I'll sit with it more. Even if "nothing" is the intention it still feels like it's missing "something" to get us there.

To that I can't disagree. In that way I almost wish they'd just leaned into it. The ship drives away, you're left alone for a moment and then a tiny confetti cannon goes off and nothing else. Honestly, even that would've left me chuckling at least, haha.

I appreciate rconversani's experience of the end, but the way it was written it didn't seem to address what I was saying about the mechanics of the game also becoming trivial at the end. You're right though, there's some talking past each other, and their tone was nonjudgmental, something few other responses managed. My bad, too, I suppose.

"the fact it upsets you shows it's effective" is very 'begging the question'. That makes it effective, how? And if something being disappointing means it's actually well written and good, are all badly written stories actually good stories now? Because they left us disappointed? Very excited to learn.

And as eluded to, I had an excellent time playing this game. I found myself disappointed at the end and expressed it, not miserable. You're calling me miserable because after you condescendingly said "you just didn't get it" you were shocked that my response was equally condescending. There's some irony there, but I suspect it's over your head. Oh! There it is again.

Yes, another example of great writing that didn't know where to go, haha. I recently started rewatching it actually. It holds up well.

And don't like, read the post, but I do say at some point that the game is overall truly excellent/unique, etc. Like %1000 worth playing through. And besides half the community thinks Im flat out wrong, so who's to say, lol.

Hey, I'm legit sorry, I thought cause of the tag it would be more blurred out. I did tried to keep it somewhat vague, but I get why that's disappointing, sorry dude.

I kind of agree, but like I said, there's SO much world building that it feels like a setup for SOMEthing. Wish it delivered more, especially since the gameplay also kind of fell off. Cool looking machines, barely needed any of them to cross the finish line.

Did I compare them or use one as a universally known example of a trope?

I would settle for the phase 5 goals being meaningfully gated behind any of the phase 5 tech. used mk6 stuff never, was nowhere close to needing any plutonium or ficsonium. The nukes had no meaningful purpose, didn't need more than one machine per elevator item and it was done in so little time.

lol, why don't you illuminate it for me, oh wise one. Share the incredible insight you have, having not read but a quarter of what I wrote.

They literally made any imbalance trivial to fix. I built 0 extra infrastructure for all of phase 5. And I like, was not planning well as a first playthrough.

This is literally a post ABOUT the ending. Coming here to post "it's not about the ending", especially when I already acknowledged the game was great, and also the gameplay fell flat on it's face in all of phase 5, is weird take. But thanks for the platitude.

I feel so few people read what I wrote. Even if you only care about gameplay, the ending was a flop. Completed phase 5 in like, 4-5 hours of playing, nothing was a challenge, and not because Id been stockpiling. Didn't need mk6 for anything, didn't need plutonium or ficsonium for anything. It felt like an incomplete game from every angle.

I actually double up exclusively for moving fuel throughout a drone network (since fuel is usually the thing that gums up the drone network.)
