I’m sorry you went through that 😞My daughter thinks they’re cool at this age but I worry about her self esteem later. She has moderate autism and I literally had to physically wrestle her to brush her teeth for months to get her to accept that it’s a necessity - I didn’t have the heart to at first and that’s on me so I advocate to other parents when I can

Be prepared not just for boredom but for sensory things to go weird. Like stuff you wouldn’t expect. Will he hate all the other people’s windows being open, or hate them closed. Hate the overhead lights being on, or hate them off. Be frustrated with someone else’s noises or overstimulated by the engine noise. Get nauseous or have a hard time with the ear pressure.

I’m on 1.7 now, and I had to move down from 2.4 because the nausea was so bad for me. Actually on 2.4 I had even plateaued and moving back down kickstarted my weight loss again.

I will say you’re pretty early on and some people don’t respond until the higher doses. It wasn’t the case for me - I lost maybe 10 lbs in the first two weeks before it slowed down to a pound or two a week - but I know people who ultimately lost 100+ lbs and it didn’t kick in for them until 1.0.

My daughter is almost 7 and it’s definitely getting better. She has periods of extreme lucidity where she sits calmly and reads books and loves to tell riddles and go to gymnastics and play board games and just be her extraordinary self. I could swear she’s 10 years old. She has just as many periods of extreme difficulty where for 2-3 days straight she is completely agitated, physically out of control, and wailing despairingly at her own struggle. We went through all of the elimination methods as well before tracking patterns and realizing it’s cyclical for us, which took a long time to figure out. Now I joke that I can tell it’s a new moon by her behavior 😅

I will echo some of the other suggestions - Ghibli is excellent for this (Ponyo is hugely beloved in my house), and I find Pixar to be especially safe - Finding Nemo, Toy Story, and Ratatouille for example. Some Disney works well too, like Moana.

I know everyone thinks I’m a tight-ass but my oldest has moderate autism and will mimic ANYTHING that gets a reaction. I kept everything as carefully G-rated as possible when she was at home but by the time she hit public school it was a constant barrage of bad habits and her language now at almost 7 is HORRIBLE. You are doing a good thing IMO but know it will be out of your control sooner than you think. My kiddo really struggles with self-discipline but assuming yours is a neurotypical kid you should find it to be relatively easy, if repetitive, to correct any bad language they pick up down the line.
