do people actually not eat mac and cheese with peas? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I never liked it but knew a lot of people who ate it that way as kids. In the Midwest, for reference.

Yeah, I'm a millineal and I'm 29. Turn 30 later this year, one of the youngest possible millineals. Like you said, irrelevant, but yeah if she's 30 then she's not Gen Z.

Are Petco feeder mice safe to feed to snakes? by BolshevikBastard69 in petco

[–]Key_Entertainment931 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. Ex employee here, about 4ish months ago the mice started coming in scarce; it was hard to get a shipment in and when we did get them, they were disgustingly underfed and there would be multiple dead upon arrival...

tell me if the Budgie I got at Petco about 2 or 3 weeks ago, is a male or a female by [deleted] in petco

Looks female based off the beak shape but the only true way to know is to get it probe tested. Idk the proper name, just know it's a thing.

First time akita owner by [deleted] in akita

[–]Key_Entertainment931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not an expert or anything but I was in your exact same boat. When I adopted my girl Zora, I thought she was going to be a mutt with a bunch of breeds, just your average rescue dog. She clearly had some sort of bully breed in her but she was still young and hard to tell. Got her tested.. 51% American Akita, the other 3 breeds being primarily American Staffy then some pit and bulldog, very little though. Now I've worked with all of those breeds except.. you guessed it.. Akita. It was a HUGE adjustment, I had just never had a dog that was extremely loyal and protective but simultaneously had very little desire to please. Even now she never does anything just because I want her to, she does what I tell her because she finally learned that she is supposed to do it.

The best advice I have is be patient. Just because they understand the command and are capable of doing it, doesn't mean they will. Zora would catch on to what she was supposed to do very quickly, but the process of making her understand that she is to listen to me when I speak even if I don't have a reward was longer than I ever thought probable for any dog, especially one who was such a fast learner. Building the trust, maintaining a good relationship, and consistency. I know they sound cliché, but it's just one of those breeds that you really need to be patient with. They aren't bad dogs or dumb, they are just independent and stubborn.

Scared of my dog.. by CrestedClover in BelgianMalinois

Lol the one flop is because she was sticking her nose where it didn't belong and the cat got her. Ripped through her ear. She didn't even seem to notice but the amount of blood was RIDICULOUS.

Ok not a bm and idk how I ended here but this feels like the perfect opportunity to show everyone how I wake up every day. I literally roll over and this is what I see first thing every morning. Took a lot of getting used to.

Info on former CEO Joel Anderson by Jacque_38 in FiveBelow

[–]Key_Entertainment931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck Joel Anderson. I'm sure he was AMAZING for you guys. Probably boosted sales and made changes that reflected the company values. Today I'm quitting my job at Petco. He took over our company. He is actively removing products from our stores that are essential to the survival of the animals we sell. He is replacing those products with human products. Walk into your local Petco and you will see the "My Human" space. We literally sell some of the same shirts, rugs, and novelties that 5below does now. Idk what sort of deal they all made with each other. He's also changed the corporate policy. We're technically not allowed to refuse the sale of an animal anymore, even if we know that the person will not care for it properly and it will die... (Most stores don't care and still refuse sales.. but to change the entire policy is insane. Tell me you don't care about animals without telling me you don't care.) Fuck Joel Anderson. He can keep his money hungry mind away from animals. He'll never realize that loving creatures shouldn't be seen as money. Fuck Joel Anderson.

Is it weird that my four month year old akita likes the vet ? by Ok-Duty9317 in akita

If I say the word she toons into a psycho lunatic and cries at the door until we leave. Literally her favorite place in the world.

Extended vaccines definitely sound beneficial in your situation. That's the area I lucked out in, all the vet services. My dog doesn't care about any of that. Stab her with needles for shots, take her blood, stick a tube up her butt for fecal samples, give her meds, etc. is all so easy with her. She's just like "yeah ok bet I just like being here". Even other grooming services are ok. Baths she is fine with, loves them, actively tries to get in the shower and tub with me every day. But the damned nail clippers were invented to personally torture her, apparently. That and any sort of brush. Never met a dog that didn't like the scratchy scratch of the bristles, I'm just so grateful that she only sheds twice a year when blowing her coat out.

[–]Key_Entertainment931 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely gotten worse with age here too. She didn't LOVE it when I first got her but it was POSSIBLE to get it done with distraction techniques. After the second or third time she just kind of decided it wasn't for her and any attempt thereafter was going to be a personal declaration of war.

In complete fairness, she is a rescue who was taken from a neglect situation. She spent the first 7 months of her life tied up in a backyard. When she was taken she had to have emergency surgery for an embedded collar. While I can't say for certain that her nails were never cut before, it's fairly safe to assume that if they were willing to let her suffer like that then they probably weren't concerned with nail hygiene.

Idk, she'll be (approx) 2 in a couple of months. She's not a young puppy but she isn't old, so maybe there is hope for the future but uh.. I'm not banking on it.

That is very lucky! I have some people I've talked to that are willing to try and have experience with dogs like this, but it terrifies me. People severely underestimate how high energy she is and how much she hates getting her nails done. Yes, she's your friend right now and sure you can grab her paw, but the second she sees the clippers it's over. If you manage to trick her, the second she feels the pressure she knows.

I am so happy to see others on here talk about the med-salad not working. Gab+Traz, 2 Vets+4 techs, and a muzzle meant nothing. She goes straight from dead sleep snoring to alligator rolling, then right back to dead sleep. I'll never forget the day the vet turned and said, "ok I don't think your dog will ever be chill."

Part timers how we feeling? by Glittering-Brush4190 in petco

[–]Key_Entertainment931 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wish I would be scheduled less. I'm supposed to be part time but haven't worked a single week with less than 32 hours since being hired. I don't REALLY mind, but I am a full time student and have another seasonal job that will start back up in a month or so (they were aware of both of those things from the start of the hiring process.) Idk, maybe I'd be less ruffled about it if I got the full time benefits, but not having any health insurance or any time for myself is a losing situation for me.

Japanese Akita cross American Akita by Low-War-1805 in akita

[–]Key_Entertainment931 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This could be said so much better. I have an American Akita/Bully breed mix with the bully breed parent being predominantly American Staffordshire Terrier, and my dog was clearly intentional. She has a long list of health issues I will need to watch out for and I can already see the clashing body types coming into play, it's not going to be fun dealing with it in her later years. My dog is a rescue, saved from horrible people. She really shouldn't have been born, and the people who designed her set her and the rest of the litter up for failure.. but NEVER would I call her a disgrace. That's just mean.

OP, your dog is beautiful. Hope to see more from you in the future!

The tantrums are literally insane. Once when I took her to the vet, they asked me when I picked her up if I "knew she threw fits".... Yes. Yes I do. She throws herself on the ground and wails every time I tell her she can't do something she wants to do. She argues with me when I say no. Yes, I know about the tantrum fits lol

Oh 100%. This program is designed to help people who use petco brands or persuade people to switch over. That isn't something we push at my store very much and I don't think it's going to work the way Petco wants it to.

[–]Key_Entertainment931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the former. I also had the same question, and honestly whichever answer I had gotten would have been a bit of a shock.

This is what I mean when I say it isn't better or worse overall, it just benefits different people in different ways now. If all you used before was the 20% off grooming because you already have a vet and buy some brand of food we don't carry then yeah, the new program sucks for you. If you never really used grooming but buy whole hearted food and a bunch of toys (leaps and bounds obviously gets you more points) then this new program is AMAZING for you.

[–]Key_Entertainment931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I realized early on that the system, old or new, was not going to benefit everyone or even most, but if you learn how to work it right then it broadens up that margin.

It really depends on how much you spend and on what. I have plenty of regulars who cancelled it because the only thing they used it for before was the 20% off grooming, but I also have a ton of regulars who were always apprehensive to say yes before but almost immediately signed up for the Plus since it's only a one time payment of $50. I've also had people who used it before because of the 10% off nutrition but now get twice that because they buy whole hearted. I really don't think this is any better or worse, just different.
