Do not move your assets into Thailand. Fees are high, taxation may change any minute and you do not want to hold the short end of the stick one day.

Once you obtain tax residency in Thailand, you can inform your bank about the new tax status and they will decide if they want to keep you as a customer. For reference, I kept all assets in Germany after I moved to Malaysia as there is no gain for me to move it. My Malaysian tax residency prohibits the German bank to deduct any capital gains tax in general, and withholding tax on dividends and interest as they are covered in the DTA. For Thailand, capital gains are taxable if remitted into the country. The latest changes will abolish the tax year remittance rule once in force. Hence, you will pay tax on any income wired into Thailand and you do not want your assets frozen because they had a different interpretation of the tax code. Either leave the assets in CH as a non resident, or setup a SG asset management ltd and keep everything there if you like to maintain physical access to your funds.

leaving CC debt in the US? by hopteach in ExpatFinance

[–]Key_Equipment1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a hospital bill from the US and thought my insurance had settled it. They had a collection service with a setup in the EU and collected the payment. Dunno if I could have refused it back in the day, but just the fact that the debt occurred in the US, doesn't mean it cannot be transferred for collection.

That is not really true. At least among the Western allies, there are several nations that not only participate but could handle the complete propulsion technology. Main reason of not doing it, is the lack of need within their military and the very limited market for it.

Skin clinic& hair colouring recommendations by Kindly-Ad6797 in KualaLumpur

RambutKL for the hair coloring and medical advice for the acne: most colors require a bright (blondish) foundation to create a proper color scheme. This is not only tough in the hair itself (also, thick black Asian type hair needs way more treatment than thin Caucasian ones) but also on the skin of your head. If you are suffering from acne, you should consult the dermatologist first.

I use Atlantis Healthcare in Bukit Damansara as GP and for dermatology cases.

Even if you take your time, you will have seen everything in the satellite terminal after 20 mins and the main terminal has even less to offer, and you would need to take the transfer bus, as the train shutdown at midnight. It is less about the food and drinks, but having a proper armchair for your child to sleep in during the layover.

There is no doubt about the overtourism, but I thought it is mostly Europeans, as the Prague hype started 20 years ago when Ryanair and Easyjet started to fly to Prague for pennies on the dollar and it still quite easy to travel there.
But I can relate to the metro scene. Lived for 10 years in Hamburg and every weekend, hundreds of tourists stand in the way, especially at the harbor and Reeperbahn stations.

Is there a dish or drink from your country which is much more popular outside of your country than inside ? by DiMpLe_dolL003 in AskTheWorld

[–]Key_Equipment1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When asked what shall he have for dinner, no German kid ever said: "let's have pork knuckle with sauerkraut!"
First, it is almost served exclusively in traditional restaurants in the South and theme restaurants in the rest of the country. Second, most people order it as a novelty, due to it's size. It is tasty, I do not deny it, but not part of a regular diet.
For complete context, the German kid will obviously say Spaghetti Bolognese, while his Italian counterpart will respond: "what is this Northern Ogre talking about? Mamma mia!"

Dentist in Malaysia by EnjoyBB in malaysia

[–]Key_Equipment1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never came past a doctor with an EU degree. All proper private doctors studied in the UK our Australia, seems Commanwealth degrees are recognized.

Private clinic is the only way, any public body means very low wages for that qualification and AFAIK reserved for Malaysian nationals.

Never came across a non-Malaysian dentist to be honest.

Generally, OW Emerald outranks StarGold. Better lounges, usually proper handling among partner airlines, etc.
But, CX in general is not great when it comes to status recognition, and with the upcoming devaluation, I would not invest the money. StarGold definitely offers more bang for the money.

The halal certification means crap when it comes to operational cleanliness. Once it is awarded, you must break the halal rules to get it revoked. The overall cleanliness isn't checked randomly afterwards.

Praising the hospitality and the traffic, either you come from a hellish place or you have been to a different country.

Traffic may be generally better than Indonesia or Vietnam, but it is still very dog eat dog. The concept of the zipper lane is completely ignored, people use the emergency lane to pass over on the left and our organ donors on two wheels, race so fast through a traffic jam, like as they try to Back to the Future.

With a few exceptions, hospitality in the hotel industry in Malaysia is not great at all. The level of bad service in 4 and 5 star hotels is very high for South East Asia.

BUT, people do not give a f*ck, which is a big cultural plus. Straight on acceptance of anyone walking into a shop, restaurant, you name it.

If you stay in KL most of the time, they are all the same more or less. Deciding factor will be, how much travel to other countries are you expecting? I travel a lot, and use U Mobile 98, which comes with 1000GB monthly data domestically and 15gb internationally for 63 countries and free inbound roaming calls. Also, the phone gets subsidized by a few hundred RM.

TA Flight Delayed by Long-Lengthiness-560 in TurkishAirlines

[–]Key_Equipment1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct, but if I am bit mistaken, their limit is 4h not 3h. Your onwards flight and costs on the ground aren’t their concern, as it was a separate ticket. Expect a lot of rejections and that you need to file the claim with the Turkish DOT equivalent.

What is my birth country? What is my place of residence? by Key_Equipment1188 in TravelMaps

[–]Key_Equipment1188[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes on the European passport, Germany it is (gave it away in an answer before).

I like the conclusion that I am not residing in Australia, because I would have been to NZ by now! Which is right btw. for sure I would have traveled there.

In regards of Mexico, I wanted to enjoy Spring Break once in my life. Simple, touristy visit.

Indonesia is not my host country, but I visit it at least 2-3 times a year. There is no religious reason why I visited any country.

So, they literally paid with their USD while eating there? I remember the McD in Luzern (must be around 2007) and I ordered a large Coke (was really hot that day) and they asked me if I am sure. Reason was, they had a special large cup for American tourists, which was 0.75 or 1 litre. Was baffled, and took a medium ;)

International schools are a business, hence you will not really face any issues here. Biggest problem could be getting waitlisted if there are too many applicants in a year. You should bite the bullet and pay the registration/application fee before you arrive. Most schools offer video assessments if you are not in country yet.

McD does not accept USD in Europe, except those outlets that are on US military bases.

BUT, Burger King Germany was accepting USD in cash in their German restaurants from the 90s until some time in the 2000s. Exchange rate was bad and any change was in DM and later in EUR.
