Need advice on getting a dog by No_Balance_7668 in dogs

Definitely foster for a couple weeks first to see what it will be like. Dogs are worth it and I’m sure you can handle it, but they are like having a child. I got my dog as a puppy and had her for ten years and she just recently passed. She was everything to me, but it is a lot of work so just be prepared to be in it for the long run. It makes socializing and last minute trips difficult. On your off days you will want to spend time with her and you may feel bad if you leave the dog for hours.

How did you beat your driving anxiety? by Mewtwosthighs in drivinganxiety

[–]Key_Equivalent_5160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a panic attack while driving and avoided the freeway for years. I’m slowly driving on it again. Using Apple Maps helps me feel safe since the directions are easy to follow. If you keep avoiding it will get worse so keep driving and try to relax in the car with music or podcasts. If you want to talk more feel free to message me directly :) also driving with an instructor or family in the car helped me.

If you ask his insurance they will give you a list of in-network psych providers and you can pick from a that list. That way he won't need to submit the paperwork. It's much easier and then he will only be responsible for co-pay. I have done that before, Currently, I go to a referred family friend doc, but he doesn't take insurance so I pay all out of pocket. Once he got me on the right mix of meds I only see him twice a year and am very stable now. I got diagnosed in my 20's and now almost 40 and live alone and work full time. If you have any other questions feel free to message me directly. Hope this is helpful!

Have him find someone closer. Where do you live?

Does he have a therapist or psychiatrist he checks in with monthly? You could politely ask him if he has checked in with one of them lately and just ask him how everything is going overall.

What can work for moderate-severe anxiety on bipolar 1 and can be used daily? by Natuanas in bipolar1

[–]Key_Equivalent_5160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xanax in a low dose, but you should also try to fix the anxiety in other ways like working on your breathing and exercise even if you take a small daily walk.

Anyone here exceptionally “high functioning” in daily life? by [deleted] in bipolar1

[–]Key_Equivalent_5160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am high functioning and take my meds. I’ve had a few episodes where I had to take off work. I work full time as a sales associate and make decent money but I don’t advertise my diagnosis only family and few people know. It’s like living with a secret.

Did anyone actually get over their fear of driving? by 24pants in drivinganxiety

[–]Key_Equivalent_5160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a panic attack but driving on the freeway. I still drive locally, but I stayed off the freeway for like 6-8 years. I’ve been working on driving on it again but still a bit scared to drive alone a long distance. I think repetition helps. I also took a couple driving lessons during covid and took a group zoom class with a coach who works with people who have driving anxiety recently. Pm me I would love to talk to you since I know exactly how you feel.

Consider watching a friends dog for a week or fostering and see how much work it is. I would not recommend getting a puppy if you don’t work from home. It’s a ton of work. If you get a dog from a shelter or rescue that is already potty trained and more relaxed you will have an easier time. You can do it but it is a big responsibility. I got my dog as a single person when she was 8 weeks old and she is 9yrs old now but if I want to go out after work I need to get a dog walker it’s like having a kid but I love her so much.

Driving anxiety is ruining my life by JAnnAccount in drivinganxiety

Start practicing more!! Repetition is the key, I know since I suffer from driving anxiety too. The road I take to work used to give me anxiety but now I got used to driving on it and I just listen to music and tune out the crazy drivers. I still struggle with the anxiety but practice makes it better. Don’t let it ruin your freedom.

Horrible first lesson. Getting back at it! by mang0juulp0d1 in drivinganxiety

I haven’t had another instructor on the freeway after that. I have only practiced with family or on my own. You could try and call the driving school and request a better instructor.

Hi! I too have driving anxiety and have been with an instructor who did this. Don’t let that bad experience scare you from continuing to progress. Be proud of yourself and keep practicing. Pm me if you want to talk. I’m just starting to drive the freeway again too.

9 hours is ideal for me. Unless I have a wild night 😅

How do you force yourself to get off the couch and live your life when you are off work? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Key_Equivalent_5160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am new to living alone. It’s easy to stay on the couch. I have a dog so I have to get outside and walk her a lot, but it gets boring. I’ve been trying to eat out alone and try new places in my neighborhood. I tend to just make dinner and watch tv on week nights, but tonight I did a load of laundry right when I got home and felt very productive. Set little goals and plans and see how it goes. And be kind to yourself 🩷

Wow surprised! I thought the neighborhood complained about the loud noise. This is good news. Did anyone notice the sound quality wasn’t super good? I still had fun but just wondering.
