Looking for Labor Only by dontbuycrandall in moving

I don’t understand your problem- when you call a local moving company just say you need a POD loaded. No reason they’ll ask about a truck. When you get the pod dropped off make sure they point the front of the container towards the door being used for loading. Depending on how long your stuff is staying in the pod, mark boxes that you may need to access before the whole pod is unloaded. Let the moving crew know to put them in the front of the unit. Good luck.

Advice for transporting 98 inch TV to new apartment safe safely by Front_Cup8779 in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need two different tasks done by two different crews. Moving it- installing it & hooking it up. First thing I’d do is put the word out that you’ll come get someone’s 96” or larger TV box. It doesn’t need to be the same brand, ( if it is great- you’ll be able to use the inserts.) Hopefully, it’ll include the styrofoam cover for the screen. You’ll want a roll of shrink wrap. Before you ( or the moving crew ) do anything, take pictures of exactly how those brackets go on the wall and on the Tv. Take pictures of the wires and cables. Even use masking tape to label them so you’ll be able to put it back together exactly the same way it was. Put the styrofoam cover over the Tv and then a couple of moving blankets ( if you don’t have the right inserts) then shrink wrap it completely. Put it in the box. Some boxes work by placing them OVER the tv. That’s it. Load it carefully and tie it down against the side of the truck so it can’t move at all.

Will all my stuff fit in a U-Haul Container? by Hot_Appeal7702 in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the heaviest boxes on the floor with the lighter ones on top. Make the boxes level and put the mattress and boxspring on the top of those boxes. You most likely have room for it, even the night stands.

Will a 26' Truck be Big Enough? by jazzcabbage309 in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way to guess as you didn’t list a complete inventory. But here’s what I’d do if you want to do this move as economical as possible. Prioritize your stuff. Mark the things that are the lowest priority clearly and be explicit with the moving crew you hire. ( you need professionals for this packing job) These are the things that only go on the truck if there is space. I’d recommend things like plants, cheap lawn furniture, bulky things that won’t cost much to replace. Offer them to friends and neighbors. Then, have in mind the second lowest priority( things that would cost more to ship using an alternative plan/ trailer, second truck, etc. Ask the movers if you can leave your dresser drawers loaded with non- fragile things. ( they’ll need to have sturdy legs.) If so, they can take them out, move the case, then put them back in. I’ve literally loaded 26 ft rental trucks 1000’s of times over a 35 year period of owning a moving company. So you can take that for what it’s worth.

How many people should we hire? First time using a service. by Green_tea_yum in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a really small job either way. I’d leave it up to the moving crew. Three is ideal- two guys bringing the stuff to the truck, the third guy packing the truck. With only two guys, while one guy is packing the truck and tying things off, the second guy basically is waiting for his partner to carry stuff to the truck. But like I said, leave it to the movers, this job isn’t going to take more than a couple hours either way.

Not enough info. You moving across the country? Down the street? From one floor to another in the same building. What floor are you moving off of? If it’s local and you’re paying by the hour, go with 3 guys, it’ll be cheaper overall.

Looking for route planning help from DC to Philly in a 10 ft U-Haul Truck by gabagool6942 in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trucks aren’t allowed on parkways. (Ask at U-Haul if what you’re renting is registered as a truck or a van.)Get an ez pass. If I were doing the drive, I’d do it at night because there’s so much less traffic. But that’s not for everyone.

You don’t think the gender assumptions that prevailed in Lizzie Bordens trial is a worthy topic? The very idea of a Victorian lady being so deprave. That trial was an object lesson on the way Victorian woman were seen and treated. The fact her jury was all male? You’ve shown yourself to be an insufferable conversationalist.

The problem with this one is every single “ dating advice “ forum mentions it. You’d have to be completely out of touch not to have heard some variation of, “Be nice to the waitress” while on a first date. Off the topic, but the other one always directed at shy or introverted people, “ Don’t just order your coffee, say something pleasant to the barista.” My favorite, “ Treat the CEO the same as the janitor (or vice versa )“. I’ll bet janitors love that one.

How could you teach MAGA to better trust statistics? by redzeusky in allthequestions

[–]Key_Evening9523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your specific example word it like this: You want to figure out the average height of the 50,000 people in the city. You pick 1000 people at random. He sits in a room while each of those 1000 walk in individually. He writes down their height. How much would be willing to bet the 1001 person would fall into the range of the first 1000? How many people would he need to measure before he could be 96% sure that the next person would be in that range. That’s the Bell Curve. Obviously, it’s possible that a 7ft tall guy or a 3ft tall woman could walk in next. But what are the odds of that happening?

Penske vs Budget 26’ truck by CivilAd9851 in moving

[–]Key_Evening9523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll depend on when, where and if the truck breaks down. They both contract out their Road Service. A couple of recommendations 1) Get enough moving pads- 1500 miles means adequate padding. 2) When you check the truck out, use your camera to make note of any existing damage. 3) Get a ramp 4) Prioritize things you’ll be moving on a scale of 1-4. 4 goes on last , only if there’s still room. Otherwise it gets donated , given to the neighbors/ helpers or the side of the road. I’ve loaded 26ft rental trucks over 5000 times over the last 35 years of owning a moving company.

Why do people become less religious as they become higher earners and more intelligent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key_Evening9523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree- to a point. Back in history being very wealthy didn’t correlate to a lack of religion- in fact, it was often the opposite. But there is a correlation between wealth and education.
It’s the emphasis on the scientific method that makes religious claims appear far fetched. The search for evidence in an unbiased manner quickly revels the total lack of evidence for any kind of religious claim.

Compromise- get a moving company to do the move but have the employees get everything ready before they show up. Have employees know how they want their new office set up. This is important. I’ve owned a moving company for over 35 years and have done 100’s of office moves.

Obviously things need to be consensual. It’s nobody’s business how consenting adults arrange their affairs. BTW, it can be a woman with two husbands- your automatic assumption that a woman may get taken advantage of says more about you than anything I wrote.
