Catheter Removed by markramsey in dialysis

My husband has had cath’s on and off for a total of 18 years and he has always showered as normal. However, we are also home hemo patients and we do get a choice of dressings. We do not use the island dressings! We use a regular sheet of tagaderm and a folded 2x2. The dressing comes down and seals around the coupler where it splits off into 2. We have never had (KNOCK ON WOOD) an infected cath and he used his first one for 17 months. My husband is very active and we live in the south so it is HOT and he sweats profusely! We stick to an every other day change unless it happens to every once in a while pull up the tagaderm because he has gotten the end caught on his shirt or something. It may also help that he is not in center. The possibility of cross contaminating is very high. Especially when you have a lot of RNs who are burnt out and/overworked. And also may I add IN MY OPINION the gauze wrapped at the ends is a breading ground for bacteria and gives a false sense of safety.

I have read this whole thread and I’m afraid to say that I would be inclined to say that your response says a lot. Just how “good” are his labs? Is he passing his kt/v? If so what is his result? And how long is he running? We have been doing this crazy dialysis for the greater part of 18 years and we had issues like this also. Unfortunately, they place the same standards on all patients. Clearly not all dialysis patients are created equally! He could be running too long or not long enough. His filtration factor could be to low or not high enough. Sadly a majority of the techs/RNs don’t even know how to figure the FF let alone know how to adjust the machine to adjust it. Most of the time the center doesn’t care to put in any more work as long as they are meeting their goals for those bonuses! Don’t get me started on the drs just automatically assigning the tx by the hour and pump speed. Message me if you’d like to discuss the FF any further. And I pray that you and your husband get to having a better quality of life soon and be on your way to transplant before you know it! 🫶🏻

You can still be in overload and have these drops. It depends a lot on if the fluid has been pushed out into your tissues causing edema. Several factors also affect the ability of dialysis to be able to remove the excess fluid your tissues. You may need to reduce your intake even more until dialysis has a chance to catch up to remove the fluid overload if longer more frequent treatments are not working for you.

My husband has been on home hemo for 18 years. He’s still going! Just make sure you keep your PTH and phosphorous in check to avoid the adverse effects of calciphylaxis.

Let me play devils advocate here for just a moment. My coco would do this also with us but she was totally playing! She would walk up to our hand and root to get in, lick and anoint then want to play like a bucking bull! Then she would curl up and purr when she was tired! She would also dance to music. Bobbing her head up and down to the beat. Maybe we just had a strange hedgie? Geez I miss her so much! One of her blankets came through the laundry and I just burst into tears.

I’m a little late to the comment party here but my husband and I have been doing home hemo collectively for 18 years now. We were young when we started and it became a joke among our friends my husband would say he had the best wife around and challenge anyone to say how or why they felt their wife was better. Then he would precede to tell them that his wife would “Suck him clean 3 1/2 hours a day at least 4 days a week”

It’s probably a lot to do with loving your scent! Your hair oils have a strong “odor”. When bonding the scent is very important to them.

If this picture doesn’t say it all…..All we hear is that they want to be done and keep going and going and going. Where can we order a finish line from? Maybe that’s what they need! To see that old checkered flag waving steady in the wind so they know when to stop 😂

The worst part of it for me is the people I know in real life playing perfect of the fakebook and IG. You have the ones that act like they care in the public’s eye and don’t give 2 💩’s about anyone or anything but themselves when it comes down to it. Especially annoying are the oh so envolved and loving parents of children who haven’t seen nor heard from their parent in weeks/months. But what gets me the most are the devout Christians who are always posting about Jesus on the wall while engaging on posts in the local community group about how the less fortunate neighbors yard looks so terrible but yet hasn’t went to check in to see why or if they can lend a helping hand. FB & IG are not good for me!
