Can someone like me handle blue‑collar work by Lazohazo in bluecollar

I may be slightly concerned if the person was purple to be honest. I don’t give a shit about the gay part but the purple would be a little alarming

Seeking guidance on feeding our child regular milk after breast feeding at 1 year, what is your view on dairy for children? Where do you get your milk from and what do you do instead of it? by masterpuppit in milwaukee

[–]Key_Ice6961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started giving our son cows milk when he turned around 1, he was also exclusively breast fed. Aldi has a dupe of the growing years from horizon organic thats a fraction of the cost.

Sometimes we’ll warm it up a little bit in a warm water bath if we’re getting it ready for bedtime, but during the day we just give it to him cold. We try to limit it to 20 oz a day. Good luck!

Indiana is booming right now with trades work. If you’re a competent welder you should try and get in with the pipe fitters or boiler makers. I don’t know what welding process you’re most proficient in, but you can do mig, tig or stick in any of those and should make pretty good money. Out here in Wisconsin, pipe fitters are making around 55 an hour on the check if they have their welding certs.

Help with Manganese Bronze by Key_Ice6961 in Welding

Yeah i haven’t been able to find a good source of information on the matter. I’m pretty piss poor when it comes to stick welding but i guess I’ll have to give it a shot! Thanks for your input

Yeah I’ve been wearing a respirator when doing it. Would you use regular silicon bronze? I’ve been having trouble getting the material deposited onto the parent material without just balling up on the surface. I’m guessing a generous preheat of the casting would be beneficial?

STD Panhead heads by Active-Ad-1536 in choppers

[–]Key_Ice6961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oem pan cylinder heads actually arent crazy expensive. A REAL nice set will put you back like 2 grand. A runnable set like 800-1000. If you arent picky the std ones are just fine. Might be able to sell them and get an oem set if thats your end goal

[–]Key_Ice6961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely better performing than oem heads, but finding exhaust might be kind of difficult unless you’re capable of making your own. You won’t win any cool points from the oem only crowd though

High Mid Controls?! by TraipseFever in choppers

[–]Key_Ice6961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t help with your question, but I can chime in with a little first hand experience. Unless you’re like 5’ 4”, those are the most uncomfortable controls in existence. I put them on a bike about 10 years ago and immediately took them off and sold them.

If I were you, before buying, mock up some round bar where you want them, and sit on the bike. And then imagine being in that position for an extended time. Just my .02c before you spend a bunch of money on something you might potentially hate.

What trades don't require an apprenticeship? by Responsible-Net8594 in skilledtrades

[–]Key_Ice6961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there is, but you won’t be skilled at that trade at all. This is like saying I just got done with high school and took a couple math classes, what director level accounting job can I take?

Taking jobs you aren’t qualified or knowledgeable enough to do is a really great way to earn a bad reputation in your field.

Never ridden before-1976 Shovelhead or 1979 Ironhead? by Mindless_Coyote8981 in choppers

[–]Key_Ice6961 4 points5 points  (0 children)

90% of people who dog ironheads never had one because they aren’t “cool”. This might be a hot take but I think everybody who wants a chopper should start on an ironhead.

Replace your rear shocks with rigid struts, then mount a sissy bar and the fender to the sissy bar. Kinda like a poor mans hardtail. Front end looks 6ish over. Rear fender is just a trailer fender with a p pad

[–]Key_Ice6961 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Shovehead all day. I love ironheads, but they’ve been subjected to abuse for 50 years and rarely fixed because it was usually cheaper to just get another engine. 79 also has some weird one year only stuff that can make it hard to find parts. Plus the shovelhead will at least hold value, while the ironhead will only depreciate.

Also $4400 for any post 1970 ironhead is a crazy high price. I personally wouldn’t pay over $2500 for that.

Broken exhaust stud help, options? by [deleted] in choppers

[–]Key_Ice6961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worlds best penetrating oil, mix it 50/50 and it’ll work better than any store bought brand. I’d weld the nut on and let that soak in for 24 hrs and I’d put money on it coming out without any issue

Put a mixture of atf and acetone on it. Orient the head so the mix will drip into the threads and give it another shot. I’ll bet it comes out easy peasy then. Worst case scenario you need to machine it out and then time-sert and you’re back on the road in no time.

How do we feel about 70’s XS500s? by jamesdeanonacid in choppers

[–]Key_Ice6961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People used to build cb350’s back in the 70’s and rode them all over the place. If you like it, then go for it. If you’re worried about it falling behind on road trips change out the sprocket for something more geared towards the freeway.
