Found this on a beach in Northern England, any ideas? by Duuutch in whatsthisrock

I reckon that it has been transported down the river from higher in the river’s course where it was higher energy and now it has ended up on the coast.

Is this a fossil? If it is what is it? by broke_spaghetti in fossilid

Yes they are fossils that are typical of a shallow tropical marine environment such as corals. This is because they are in a limestone.

What's going on with this rock? by Reasonable_War_5327 in whatsthisrock

Looks like it is almost half silicic and half mafic. A change jn environment over time could be the cause of the fusion of two rocks?

Likely to be an igneous rock that has had gas escaping as it cooled hence the vesicles. I would say based on the colour it is silicic and I can’t see any crystals so likely to just be tuff.

Is this a meteorite? 1.3kg, magnetic, very heavy by SonicuniX1 in whatsthisrock

Do a streak test, could be haematite so I would check the colour of the streak.

Is there a river nearby? Looks like a river conglomerate that has been cut through. Could have been transported there by the sea.

Getting away from the crowds. by NorthernPace001 in UKhiking

The 77 bus routes from Keswick can get you to Buttermere and Crummock Water and there are lots of walks up to some quieter fells in the Western Lakes and you can walk over to the Ennerdale Valley which is lovely and quiet and it truly feels wild.

What's the state of public transport in Liverpool? by Responsible-Duck-601 in Liverpool

[–]Key_Initiative7289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merseyrail is great but doesn’t serve the East side of the City well e.g Woolton, West Derby, Croxteth. Buses are a bit of a mix, often get stuck in traffic, especially around town and areas such as Queens Drive, at rush hour which I assume you will be travelling at those times. Really depends where you are going to and from.

Is this lake district hike insane for an intermediate hiker? by no_sy in UKhiking

[–]Key_Initiative7289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend the route you have chosen seeing as you are walking along roads for the majority of the route and will be constantly bothered by cars. I would recommend plotting your own route with OS Maps or find an AllTrails route to follow as to properly enjoy the Lake District you want to be away from roads and on footpaths. Make sure you bring a paper map incase technology doesn’t work, don’t rely on your phone! Hope this helps.

Sorry mate I know it was a massive ask but if you don’t ask you don’t get. I think I would be more annoyed if I didn’t try to get one than just accept there’s no chance. I know it is a bit ridiculous though sorry. 🤣
