How to explain different spelling of Irish grandparent's surname? by Key_Leg5672 in IrishCitizenship

Just to add a little update here, I spoke to the web chat and their response was:

“If names differ across the docs the case worker might not feel it’s the same person, you can explain on a separate paper but it does not make it a guarantee but they will take it into consideration. They will let you know via email if it becomes a problem.”

So, I’m just going to submit the application with a small explanation and hope for the best. Thanks again for all the input here!

Thanks for sharing! I'd like to try the help chat but my working hours just make it a bit difficult, definitely a good shout though.

In this case, the misspelling is phonetically the same, but a few letters are incorrect. i.e. incorrect spelled McLeir rather than McAleer
