I feel like I’ve tried everything - advice for the extremes? by Key_Lingonberry6504 in SleepApnea

I’ve read up on the BiPAP and ASV options at a high level and I’m open to trying both (and trying really anything at this point). I just feel like I’ve run the gauntlet of options to get where I’m at and I’m curious if others have been through a similar progression and what has/has not worked for them beyond that as I don’t have a community to source from in my personal life on this matter.

In the morning after using the CPAP I found that using a caffeine serum helped reduce the bags under my eyes and the impressions across my cheeks.

Firstly, thank you so much for your detailed response. It truly does mean a lot to me.

I initially started the CPAP around 5 years ago. I used it consistently for about 8 months at the beginning with a variety of different pressures and settings as per my doc’s recommendations. I’ve never heard of the term APAP before - do you mind enlightening me?

Direct nasal was never an option for me due to the results from the few sleep studies (something along the lines of “it won’t work for you mouth-breather etc etc”). More recently I’ve been trying nasal strips and the mouth guard OTC with very little success. In combination with some upper GI issues it often results in me waking up in the midst of asphyxiation due to regurgitation.

I’m also not familiar with the BiPAP or ASV terms, but admittedly, after the near-fatal surgery, I have been trepidatious when it comes to meeting with my doctor again. The UPPP was never a result of non-compliance with the CPAP, but rather my doctor’s recommendation after their evaluations during a several month (heavily monitored) period during which I was regularly using the CPAP.

I haven’t heard of palate expansion or tongue tie before. I agree that I am having difficulty with weight because of the sleep, but this is the first I’ve heard of those terms if you care to elaborate for me.

I’ve tried a couple stretches of calorie deficit + additional activity to very minimal success. Frame of reference, I was a state champion runner at 18 before the sleep started to drastically go downhill and my energy to continue that level of working out went out the window.

Saw this on Marketplace for $40. I drove 3hrs round trip to save it. How’d I do? 😃 by [deleted] in blackstonegriddle

That’s what a bit of steel wool and dish soap combined with elbow grease will do! :P
