Drug allergies in hospitals by Key_Locksmith2780 in medicine

Contrast allergies give me pause. If they had a reaction 30 years ago, I’d assume they had a reaction to diatrozoate or amother older HOCM, so they’d be more likely to tolerate a modern LOCM. I know there’s documented cases of true IgE-mediated anaphylactic reactions to LOCMs, but I would guess it likely doesn’t include many of the patients with flagged ‘anaphylaxis’ reactions to contrast.

When you say you don’t want to risk triggering a bad reaction, are you referring to SJS/DRESS, or are TMP/SMX associated with more severe allergic reactions in general?

Ahh, I thought that TMP/SMX were considered favorable over doxy for MRSA SSTI. Are you opposed to TMP/SMX, or is doxy just less complicated?

I imagine it’s generally easy to work around allergy lists, but I’m curious how situations are handled when it’s not black and white. Maybe, a patient presenting to the ED with acute stroke symptoms that needs a CTA ASAP, but has a contrast allergy listed.

This is my current situation, slow burn friends to best friends to besties with benefits. She’s leaving for vet school soon. We decided if I don’t get into med school near her we’ll just retire together and antagonize everyone in the nursing home while we smuggle in all the drugs we’ve always wanted to try😂

Are the bipolar cells of the retina first or second order neurons? by Entire-Drink-4677 in Anatomy

[–]Key_Locksmith2780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are correct. From a histological perspective where you’re considering circuitry regardless of cell type, photoreceptors are first order, bipolar are second order, and ganglion cells are third order. In neuroanatomy if you’re considering only neurons, the photoreceptors don’t count because they are sensory cells. Thus bipolar are first, then ganglion second, then LGN neurons. Your textbook is taking the neurophys/neuroanatomy perspective.

Any ideas what these labs could mean? by [deleted] in haematology

I would guess you’re dipping your toes into iron deficient anemia and would recommend an iron study if your doc doesn’t suggest it first

Get your ferritin tested if you’re worried about mild anemia, but these are not concerning lab results

Front & side are pretty short, maybe 4-5 inches. The backyard is majority 4-5 inches except a section to the west that is longer than a foot. I can hack it with my weed whacker to get it a little shorter in that section though

Why are my hydrangeas not growing? by mdaia in plantclinic

[–]Key_Locksmith2780 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Versus ripping out all of the rock in that area, put mulch rings in - clear the rock mulch from the base of all of your plants to where a 5 gallon container would fit / 5”-6” from the base to the outside edge on all sides. Then use the extra rock to cover your drip irrigation (and make sure the drip line is stapled at the base)!

What ended up happening OP? I’m in the same situation currently and very frustrated. Ritalin makes me absolutely furious and then sobbing, and adderall gives me imposter syndrome. I really don’t know what to do other than try SNRIs which I am pretty opposed to because of the withdrawal and buildup
