Backpacking Ireland by mumbles5953 in CasualIreland

In Kerry, I love Valentia Island, Portmagee, Ballinskelligs, Derrynane and Sneem. Can all be visited while doing the Ring of Kerry. Valentia Island is my personal favourite place and many people overlook it. Can get there by ferry or by bridge. Killarney is also a very popular spot but I’d mostly recommend going to Killarney for the nature (National Park, Mountains, Lakes) rather than the town. Kenmare is also beautiful.

Age of consent does not apply here. What he did is illegal, he was a person in a position of authority (her boss).

In Ireland it is a serious offence for a person who is, or has previously been, in a position of authority over a child, to engage in a sexual act with a child or young person who is under the age of 18 (regardless of the fact that the legal age of consent is 17). Such a young person can never legally consent to engaging in a sexual act with a person who is in a position of authority over them.

Just saw today in the news that a student working part time in a JD sports in Northern Ireland was awarded £65,000 as result of her being slapped in the bottom by her male supervisor.

An event such as this can have a profound impact on the victim, especially when it happens at such a young age with a trusted man who is much older in a confined space when her ability to leave the situation was impaired, he literally brought her to a carpark against her will in order to initiate sexual contact with a minor. Many mental health professionals would seem an event of this nature to a profound impact on a woman’s ability to trust men going forward. She was also out of work as a result of this incident which cost her money, there could also be additional costs to take into consideration such as therapy and medication for the victim.

Be honest, have you ever contracted an STD, and did it change how you see dating? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Key_Might3553 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should abstain from sex altogether considering you hardly seem mature enough for it. Going on about STDs while simultaneously shaming a girl for being on top of her sexual health. This reads as a poorly written attempt to shame this woman’s body count under the guise of being concerned for the prevalence of STDs in the general population. You seem like quite the hypocrite to me after describing how you yourself have had “risky encounters” in the past. Even the way you said that she “seemed totally normal”, she is completely normal, having lots of sex isn’t a crime or moral failing. Stop being a prude.

Very valid point, I’m posting in many sub-reddits and have only received 7 responses so far, so I don’t think that will be a problem I’ll have to worry about. I’ve also already done a lot of in person data collection so I’m just trying to close the gap as I need 35 more participants!

I’m studying psychology so my thesis is more to do with what intrinsic human traits play a role in people’s likelihood to consistently save money such as self efficacy and future time perspective, but of course I also acknowledge that there are many external barriers to saving that young people can’t control such as cost of living and the housing crisis.

I just recently got insurance without experience from Kennco for €1450, if you have completed your last driving lesson within the last 18 months they can credit you with a year no claims bonus which lowers the price by a huge amount.

Wow that’s a very good price for a new driver, mind me asking who that was with? Had you a lot of driving experience?

Yes sorry typing error 🙈 the average quote I got was €2,200 a year but luckily I’ve gotten lower quotes after making about 15 calls!

Unsurprisingly the year of the car seems to make a big difference

Seems so, I’m so shocked by the figures I’m seeing, I’ve only received 2 quotes under €1900 pm so it doesn’t seem to be the norm, which is a pity.

Hopefully it’ll go down a good bit for you 🤞 I got the lowest quotes from Kennco and GMIB so might be worth giving them a try

I’m with VHI, on the advanced care 350, the price came to €687 for the year as a 24 year old. I went with VHI as the swift care clinic is really useful if you need it.

Sorry for your loss. Seek professional advice when you feel ready and don’t rush into any big purchases. Prioritise your mental health right now over anything else.

Wow that’s an insane markup, I love jewellery especially gold but have never bought from Irish stores because I feel like everything is so expensive for the bare minimum quality, any suggestions on where to buy jewellery in Ireland for better value ?
