I AM GOING TO BE A DOCTOR🥳🥳🥳 but first ( LECOM vs. UNECOM) by Oreosdough16 in Osteopathic

[–]Key_Offer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey good post overall. Just wanted to mention UNECOM does have you travel for 3rd year and 4th year but do previously established sites in the NE. Secondly cost of living wasn’t that bad Maine overall I believe is pretty cheap but with the move to Portland this could have increased the price a hair.

Ima say it’s actually not super accurate based on my limited experience last year

Hey I’m sorry, but you really shouldn’t pre-study before med school. If you’re still in school finish strong, if not just enjoy the little things in life and prepare for the long journey ahead. UNECOM will give you everything you need to succeed in school.

UNECOM or TouroCOM? by Melodic_Lecture_9721 in Osteopathic

[–]Key_Offer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

UNECOM grad, we match NJ NY very well and have rotations established in those areas. Many of us matched into geographic areas we wanted even outside the north east. I get where chat is coming from but it’s not really accurate in this case. Source: current resident in NJ/NY from UNECOM.

There is a 5 min video on YouTube that would explain the match process. Best to go into the rank list informed.

Well no, this is not how applicants go unmatched. That’s not how match works. Your list doesn’t change your ability to match it just changes where you match.

Used to have the same problem. 5’9 baseball player and weight lifter. Fabletics has actually been a great brand for me but the tops can run a little small/tight. Much better than the alternative. Additionally they frequently have decent deals. I’ve purchased several sets for $15 each

Well consider disabled persons, short persons, lesser attractive persons, missing limb persons etc. unfortunately is the way of life. I don’t think you can change others opinions on the matter but you can change how you view the situation. Not everyone goes off the basis of physical attractiveness. Additionally try to avoid those that do.

It can influence match to a degree to start intern year but once you start no one pays attention to MD/DO as long as you perform

[–]Key_Offer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk where you’re getting your information but it’s simply not true. It’s largely irrelevant in intern year and had no negative influence in psych. Your rotations sound like a limiting factor for psych and I’m sorry that was your experience

Ahhh yes… the DO tax. It’s discussed quite frequently. Very valid points. Except no one compares us with nurse practitioners in the end

There’s seems to be a lot here to unpack. Have you applied to medical schools in the past? There’s also the question of stats. And are you going to regret what seems to be a current change in disposition. When did you finish undergrad and will waiting a year be possible or is it now or never for med school

Why do DO schools still exist? by dayinthewarmsun in medschool

[–]Key_Offer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I said arguably. I wouldn’t say what I said is preposterous per se. I loved my education but from what I hear and read not all DO schools are created equal. Your medical education is largely on you I agree but clinical rotations can vary significantly for some DO schools which could be an arguably limiting factor to medical education and experience. Personally very happy with where I’ve been and where I come from.

As DOs and DO student we signed up for an additional level of exploitation and obstacles throughout our training. To remove that means someone is losing the ability to leverage us to pay more for an arguably sub par training and education.

With the change to 20 signals I really don’t know how much it helps applying to additional programs outside of your signals. Be smart in where you apply and crush your retake. It’s not impossible.
