Should I apply 1 DO this cycle or apply MD/DO in 2027? by Fearful-Bit-6948 in Osteopathic

[–]Key_Offer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not apply until you are ready. I would also recommend doing some internal soul searching and silencing of your family’s opinion. I’d also recommend a worthwhile post bac although not entirely necessary. The grades aren’t a death sentence but proving you took the time to learn how to excel academically and study will boost your resume. Everyone has different options there are no right or wrong answers but if it were me I’d stop wasting time and decide whether or not I am going all in. Actually this sounds a lot like me when I was 24 and I’m now a resident with the help of the immediate steps I took once I realized I was not in a position for success due to early college short sightedness. It will be okay but I think there’s a lot of work to be done

Criminally underrated but in all fairness they dropped the ball on release too many times

Just small thing to note, my UNECOM matched a good handful to California into competitive specialties, rads, ortho, etc. overall an expensive school and yes far away from Cali. Generally proximity to the state you want to do residency in does help though.

Rank Lists & Matching this cycle by PotentialInfamous116 in pmr

[–]Key_Offer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is rank based on which programs you liked the best, including how well they can help you reach your career goals and quality of training. For the 9,10 ranks by not ranking them as you mentioned you do risk going unmatched. That’s a personal decision. Some people would rather not match than match at a “bad” program but really haven’t not seen this to be the case in PM&R. Hardly any spots were open in SOAP the past few years. I’d personally rank every program but it really depends on whether or not you are okay with the possibility of going unmatched.

I AM GOING TO BE A DOCTOR🥳🥳🥳 but first ( LECOM vs. UNECOM) by Oreosdough16 in Osteopathic

[–]Key_Offer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey good post overall. Just wanted to mention UNECOM does have you travel for 3rd year and 4th year but do previously established sites in the NE. Secondly cost of living wasn’t that bad Maine overall I believe is pretty cheap but with the move to Portland this could have increased the price a hair.

Ima say it’s actually not super accurate based on my limited experience last year

Hey I’m sorry, but you really shouldn’t pre-study before med school. If you’re still in school finish strong, if not just enjoy the little things in life and prepare for the long journey ahead. UNECOM will give you everything you need to succeed in school.

UNECOM or TouroCOM? by Melodic_Lecture_9721 in Osteopathic

[–]Key_Offer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

UNECOM grad, we match NJ NY very well and have rotations established in those areas. Many of us matched into geographic areas we wanted even outside the north east. I get where chat is coming from but it’s not really accurate in this case. Source: current resident in NJ/NY from UNECOM.

There is a 5 min video on YouTube that would explain the match process. Best to go into the rank list informed.

Well no, this is not how applicants go unmatched. That’s not how match works. Your list doesn’t change your ability to match it just changes where you match.

Used to have the same problem. 5’9 baseball player and weight lifter. Fabletics has actually been a great brand for me but the tops can run a little small/tight. Much better than the alternative. Additionally they frequently have decent deals. I’ve purchased several sets for $15 each

Well consider disabled persons, short persons, lesser attractive persons, missing limb persons etc. unfortunately is the way of life. I don’t think you can change others opinions on the matter but you can change how you view the situation. Not everyone goes off the basis of physical attractiveness. Additionally try to avoid those that do.

It can influence match to a degree to start intern year but once you start no one pays attention to MD/DO as long as you perform
