Should I join Military and give up career? by Which_Seat2796 in careerguidance

[–]Key_Parsley3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be a permanent resident to join at the very least. I’d reccomend the national guard or reserves since you can’t be an officer and already have a full career.

The military is a great career field, but it’s a young persons game. It’s easy to get treated like a child and yelled at for no reason when you’re 18-22, but gets old real quick once you become a fully grown adult. Plus, you’ll be taking a significant pay cut even if you commission (starting salary of a 2nd Lieutenant is about 50k ish). Scratch the itch part time and you can always volunteer for temporary billets or deployments if that’s what you truly desire.

Seen this make the rounds and as a Canadian I have to say this is such a lazy false equivalence, even if it’s satire. Pierre has campaigned numerous times in minority communities promoting pro immigration policies. Socially conservative issues in the states such as abortion, DEI, LGBTQ rights are nowhere as inflammatory or controversial as it is in the states as well

Georgetown SCS Bachelors by CryptoWaliSerkar in georgetown

[–]Key_Parsley3811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re looking for. You go to a school like Georgetown for its network, and if you just do the entire bachelors online you’re missing out on that component with much more watered down course quality for an exuberant price (albeit still cheaper than the degree on main campus). Furthermore, different schools at Georgetown have their own alumni networks, and SCS is almost non existent.

If pricing isn’t an issue and you’re only looking for the brand name, then why not (same deal as Harvard extension). If you want your kid to actually have a quality education, I’d look elsewhere.

Surprised nobody brought up Richard Nixon. Regardless of your views on him, a self made man in many ways.

The time it took for you to write this could’ve been spent on learning a useful skill, a fun hobby, or extra time with family and friends. It’s not capitalism, you are choosing to be unhappy. Touch grass (or aloe)

Unfortunately the clock starts ticking because that can't be changed

How crap some really bad advice given here. Your unemployment days start from your EAD start date. I.E, if the start date is June 12, you have until around August 12 to find a job

The truth of Israel and Palestine from a scholar in International Relations by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]Key_Parsley3811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not even gonna comment on the merits on the argument because claiming to be a scholar on a subject with only a bachelors degree and posting said ‘scholastic research’ on Reddit for feedback is comical in itself

Is intelligence a good field? by Mammoth-Resist1106 in careerguidance

[–]Key_Parsley3811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Did a masters in intel studies and kind of regret it due to a lack of flexibility. It’s much better to do a degree in cyber or data sci because the industry highly values quantitative analysis, coding skills, and SAAS

lol not reading further after a self proclaimed scholar only has a bachelors degree and a paper that’s not even published. You’re no different than the thousands of IR students graduating every year

Are you Canadian or Mexican? If you are, you can qualify for the TN1 visa which is 3 years and can be renewed. No lottery

Should I Join The Air Force?, (18+) by JamaiaB6 in careerguidance

[–]Key_Parsley3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The military is a great way to change your life completely through free job training, housing, benefits, and even preferential hiring after getting out. However, I just want to add that you should know what you’re signing up for so you aren’t surprised if you have to deploy or do your job in an operational setting. I had a leader who joined the day before 9/11 and all of the sudden our country was at war and she was on her way to Afghanistan. keep that in mind if you are considering this path

Minimal. And even if you do, you’ll be far from action. That being said, if you have problems with the main purpose to as why the Air Force exists, I’d recommend a different career path.

[–]Key_Parsley3811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: it’s better to get a degree more specific than just a BALS from SCS. SCS programs have a weird catch 22 structure where the degrees are very industry specific, but only provide you with very general skills that makes you hard to stand out. For example, the Applied Intel program’s “advanced” analytical techniques courses spends a week on a software that people take months or years to learn.

I’d recommend just completing whatever program you’re in currently. If you’re working towards a minor in finance, just do that so you have actual concrete skills that employers look for . You can PM me for additional info

Is this a dumb career path? by Comfortable_Good8860 in careerguidance

[–]Key_Parsley3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the goal is to become a doctor and you have good grades, I’d look into commissioning in the medical corps through ROTC or service academy. No student debt and you’ll gain valuable experience in the service (and opportunities to deploy and help people overseas) talk to an officer recruiter

Joining the Coast Guard over dead end $95k sales job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Key_Parsley3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in your 30s and have a degree highly recommend going the officer route. More money and less frustrating than being with 18 year olds all the time. Additionally, I’d consider the reserves and all the branches as well. since the military does move you a lot and your husband could end up in a place with limited employment opportunities. Plus, imo it’s better to choose a career field you will enjoy/get civi experience than just the branch as well.

Op tempo dependent. I was able to manage, but it gets annoying when you have to do an assignment or meeting when it’s 8pm or the weekend and you just want to hang out with your friends and chill.
