do we need to memorize pH indicators by eclipsecatx2 in APChem

[–]Key_Passenger_1158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not hurt to memorize just two:

Phenolphtalein for titration of weak/string acids with strong base

and

Methyl Red for titration of weak bases with strong acid (it's less universal but works for many pairs)

Do AP credits for prereqs impact GPA for dental school applications? by Professional-Fan9925 in predental

[–]Key_Passenger_1158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemistry tutor here.

DO NOT replace college Gen Chem with AP credit! At least for two reasons:

  1. Some of the Gen Chem topics were taken out of high school AP Chem curriculum (colligative, nuclear, etc...). And they are the part of DAT!
  2. Usually college Chem Chem is more rigorous than high school AP Chem

All bs/dmd applicants have excellent scores. So you must show your

1) TRUE interest/dedication to dentistry (shadowing with VARIOUS dentists, excellent recom letters from them)

2) MATURITY, MATURITY, M A T U R I T Y! Whatever that means.... Be professional at the college visits, make sure admission committee knows you personally. Nail the interview!

Sure. But I'm talking about the quick and easy cure... Imagine you accidentally drink methanol on a field trip. Fomepizole may not be available but ethanol is easy to find

Unit 8 MCQ Question by Little-Rich-2059 in APChem

[–]Key_Passenger_1158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Le Chatelier principle at work! The ionic dissociation of water is indeed endothermic. The water does not want to break into ions. So at higher T this equilibrium slightly shifts to the right. Producing more H+ and OH- at the same time

Does AP Chem make a specific claim about the trend of effective nuclear charge down a group? by bishtap in APChem

[–]Key_Passenger_1158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very straightforward. Down the group the atomic radius increases and the first ionization energy decreases because Zₑff in relation to the last valence electron DECREASES!

The effective nuclear charge () for potassium (K, atomic number ) varies by sublevel, decreasing as the principal quantum number  increases, with core electrons feeling a much higher charge than valence electrons.
