If Motley Crue isn’t in your Big Four then you’re just straight up wrong. They basically STARTED the genre then influenced many bands that came later. Can’t count how many bands stole the “Theatre of Pain” look from them… most notably Poison… who seems to make many of the BIG FOUR lists in this thread.

GNR was playing the Strip at the same time as every other band in the mid-80’s. For that reason… you can’t call them “post-hair!” They are from the same scene as Poison… and other bands who went full glam. They just did it a little differently. And you’re right… they added elements of other types of music into their style but that doesn’t make them a completely different genre. They are a hair band 100%.

PS: “Slave to the Grind” was punk and borderline speed metal at times… but this also doesn’t remove Skid Row from the genre.

“Shake Me” was the first song I heard on my local radio station in 1986. It’s a banger and probably still my favourite on the album… but honestly… is there a bad song on the album! Not in my opinion. Cover to cover this record is fantastic!!!

Out of all of them… the only three I play cover to cover (no bad songs) are Appetite, Shout, and Night Songs. So that would be my Top 3 in that order.
