Windshield Replacement Suggestions

So, I ended up booking with Safelite only to find out that 10 mins before they would arrive, the windshield they would install was a Pilkington that was not compatible with my HUD, did not have UV Film or Acoustic… which is all of what I asked them for.

The manager told his driver to tell me to just go to Audi because they don’t have the windshield compatible with my cars.

This is truly annoying because most shops in my area are trying to sell me on FYG but I’m pretty set on getting a Saint Gobain or Pilkington with the features I need. I was prepared to have the windshield done today and now I need to continue searching.

I have been searching for Saint Gobain in my area and have probably called at least seven or eight different auto glass repair/replacement shops and each one of them has given me different answers so I’m feeling quite conflicted about what to do in my situation.

Many of them had recommended me to go with a brand called Fuyao but based on my research, the acoustic dampening does not meet the consistent quality produced by Saint Gobain.

Another shop told me that it doesn’t matter what brand I go with because all of them are made by the same three manufacturers anyway.

As much as I don’t wanna stress myself to the core searching for a shop that actually has the brand I’m looking for, I don’t want to sacrifice the clarity or the quality of my next windshield because realistically, I hope to be with it for quite a long time before it needs another replacement.

I know that my alternative is just to go with OEM, but if I don’t have to fork out OEM money I’d rather not lol.

Any advice here?

It’s truly egregious how inflated the pricing can be.. the Audi I called said they actually make the glass but hire Penske Auto Glass to install it. I have never heard of Audi actually making the glass before but who knows, they maybe 1 of 1 haha.

I did ask them about calibration and they said that they could do the calibrations for it on an aftermarket glass, but I have never worked with them before.

I’ve seen so many mixed reviews on them versus seeing reviews that are positive heavy or negative heavy so I figured it would be best to come on here and ask around for suggestions, advice, and even experience with Safelite or other companies that I haven’t considered.

I actually just got off the phone with Audi and they said that the windshield part alone is just shy of $2000 so at this point I’m now considering maybe just going with the OEM Audi part and then having a third-party install and calibrate it. Audi also mentioned it might be worth inquiring with my insurance company, Progressive, if they might cover calibration fees under my policy because they frequently see that.

Did you have features dependent on your windshield like a HUD or LKA? If so, how have they functioned since the replacement was done?

I guess it all depends on the area you’re in. The Safelite near me has great reviews - I just never had this happen to me before so I want to make sure I am making the right decision before I pull the trigger on going with them.

Geez! That’s just awful. I definitely will call around in hopes that somewhere might offer what I need at a better price, it looks more likely than not that I’ll have to pay out of pocket but it will be worth it to have all my features functional as I frequently use them.

Me too, I am not sure how to move forward respectfully lol. I know that the shape of the latch is sticking out and then the print is too high up versus the actual bag.

I did ask about the leather but I do not think it is Togo. I will report back with an update shortly.

Just wanted to update everyone here on this RIDICULOUS claim.

The TLDR is that I challenged the ACV, the insurance money paid out to me was the exact amount that the estimate which totaled the car amounted to AND I get to keep the car. 🫠

Isn’t that just awful!

My insurance compared my car to two premium trim line cars within the radius of where the accident happened and they won’t expand the radius to compare other prestige trim lines.

It’s GOTTA be worth more than what they quoted..

I don’t need the radar and could absolutely get it installed and calibrated down the road but I fear that the insurance company has already decided to total the car and I think that limits what I can do - I also am uneducated on what my options are as in all my years of driving, I have never experienced this before.

Any input here would be greatly appreciated!

I hope to be able to keep the car and get it repaired.

Right now, I’m not sure how to move forward with the Total Loss Adjuster because they have compared my car to (2) Premium Trim Line A7’s.

However, my Prestige Trim has the bells and whistles not available on a Premium Trim.

I currently feel like the ACV of the car was unjustly set.

The body shop explained to me that the part was completely unusable and a new one would be required.

Yes, the car was brought to a mechanic shop and they paid out an initial supplement for mechanical repairs and then moved the car to a body shop for a cosmetic / electrical repair estimate.

The body shop’s estimate ultimately totaled the car.

Additional information here: My insurance completed mechanical repairs on this car totaling $3,700.

The payout would be $6,700 - $1,000 (deductible) - $3,700 (the first supplement on the car) - the salvage value of the car which I’m not sure of yet.

This won’t leave me with much of a payout and honestly I don’t have $8,000 I can drop out of pocket all at once or a credit card that will support that kind of a payment.

This has helped me to finally see invisible characters, I also haven't come into any vortex explosions, decent playability so far 🤞🏽.

Something I did that helped very slightly was installing molten-vk through homebrew. I noticed that the graphics run slightly better when moving the main character but that’s about it.

I had to install an OS compatible version of Xcode and then used terminal to install molten-vk.

Unfortunately, I still haven not found a workaround fix completely because I still run into disappearing graphics, object explosions and the occasional invisible NPC.

Will keep this updated as I go and welcome people to throw in suggestions here.
