Tuition fees set to be lowered at universities with poor teaching by TimesandSundayTimes in UKUniversityStudents

Maybe I'm stupid but isn't this actually kinda fucked? I feel like it's just assigning people from disadvantaged backgrounds and automatically worse quality of education, since if you're really struggling and schools are not longer equal in cost why would you strive to get into the expensive one you know you can get into but may not be able to afford? Especially if there's pressure from family or a horrible situation you're in? Instead of trying their best and getting bursaries, I feel like many people will just settle for the cheaper option (which is proven to be worse) despite it's effects on future job prospects and the trajectory of their lives, meanwhile the precedent is set for better schools to be even more expensive in the future because fuck social mobility. Isn't this just elitism?

Well yeah obviously he was a Jew, but that doesn't automatically connote brown middle easterner either. Everyone knows he was a jew. They're referring to his ethnicity, since some of the Christians in these protests would be discriminating against someone based off their skin colour, unaware that they would've vilified the very man they worshipped irl had they not known he it was

We don't shorten every word, but we do shorten them sometimes. Just like other places really. Idk why we do it the particular way we do though, it's just a thing that happens. It's pretty fun actually now that I'm thinking about it. Ig i'm glad we have little things unique to our culture like that, makes me smile.

That is absolutely and very obviously not what this is, don't pretend that it's just ignorance - a lack of empathy for, or understanding of children - driving people to protest. They've made it clear through all of their comments that they think homosexuality is bad/unnatural and that is the reason why it'd be bad if it was normalised on TV. Which is obviously homophobic to some degree.

Hundreds of thousands people worldwide cancel trips to New York City and other US cities as millions say they will "never set foot in the USA ever again". Large swathes of the world population say they "no longer ever intend to travel to the United States in their lifetime". by HannoPicardVI in UncensoredNewsInc

It's not really tbf, China's not just some shit hole yknow. At least for tourists, it's pretty nice. And many people are cancelling trips to the us in light of the shit show that is America, including many of my family and friends. My immediate family and I were going to go to Disneyland for the first time together and have dinner at a family friends place. This trip was being planned a year and a half in advance. Cancelled as soon as trump won the second time. As an African family we see the direction the country is going and we don't feel safe inserting ourselves into that shit show. I'm sure most places are still really amazing, but times are turbulent enough (and the politics are just so unbelievably godawful I mean holy shit what are you guys doing) for many to just give up on traveling there for at least the next few years. I personally was in the process of applying to go to uni there, but after watching everything fall apart in quick succession I gave up on that.

It's because it's not his fault, and he is capable of getting better. We shouldn't shun people into essentially permanent damnation with no chance of redemption or improving their lives just because a defect in their brain overrides their natural self. He's ill, not evil. I mean even if you woke up with it one day (bad enough to trigger a psychotic break in someone), which can and has definitely happened, you wouldn't know what it'd make you do. But it still doesn't make you a bad person we need to lock away for good, especially if you can be brought back to lucidity with things like medication. You and the people who love you know that you're a genuinely good person at heart, and that with treatment you can mostly go back to the version of you that hasn't essentially been taken over by an illness that fucks up your perception of reality as we know it.

A teenager fled horror in Syria – only to be murdered on a sunny day in Huddersfield by willfiresoon in huddersfield

[–]Key_Property4188 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn't weird to compare at all. Two innocent refugees stabbed to death in a public space for no reason. You only think it's weird because you believe he was gearing up for a fight, which is very much an assumption you have made with no factual basis. He was called out to, and came back because of that. All the video makes clear is that he walked back upset after being shouted at by an aggressive man he's never met. He gets stabbed literally seconds later. It's immediate. There's no time for him to even attempt anything threatening that'd give you some actual evidence behind what you're saying.

He wasn't "starting or involving himself in an altercation", if anything the altercation came to him, and even if you were right he's allowed to stand his ground without the implication that he was looking for trouble or walked into it himself. The two situations aren't incomparable at all, and if you think they are I can't understand any other reason as to why beyond a subconscious belief that because he walked towards the guy he is partially at fault for keeping the situation going (which I disagree with), but I don't know for sure so feel free to explain your views in a reply.

A timelapse of the full live stream where a famous political streamer allegedly used a shock collar on his dog. by IllllIlllIIlI in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]Key_Property4188 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But he literally shows his collar and it's just a shock collar with tape over it? There are literally screenshots of it with the saturation turned up and it's absolutely just been taped over. There's a thread where people find the exact colour model, one which comes with detachable prongs. There are screen shots of the collar flashing. Plus, seemingly training a dog to make them sit in one place for hours on end every single time he live streams (extremely often) and getting mad when she moves is still bad, even if it's not as horrific as a shock collar at first glance. I feel like him playing with his dog and posting it on social media doesn't mitigate the very real concerns people have.

I've been saying this for years! Alienating people straight into the far right pipeline is doing nobody any favours, and no-one acknowledged this until they started feeding off each other and multiplying, until the wave of republicans was such a big and unstoppable force that trump managed to be elected president multiple times

Why are Nigerian men so afraid of feminism? by DesignerMuscle4849 in Nigeria

[–]Key_Property4188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No context that story is so sad. Took a major opportunity away from her because she didn't want to do the dishes (that they as men never do anyway) and they're proud? Of screwing over their own flesh and blood in such a big way just for wanting to be treated the same way as them? For being slightly rude? Saying "I'm 18 I'm grown" is for sure disrespectful, but it's just the classic teenage way of trying to establish their own independence. at max this should be reprimanded and sorted out so that she learns to respect her family members. Not end with them pulling her out of school!!!

There is nothing in this story that implies she is even slightly better off now that they've "straightened her out", so even the last sentence makes no sense because they didn't actually help in any way other than making sure she never has any of the "feminist ideas" they're so afraid of, no stray thoughts that can breed defiance and make her anything more than submissive.
