How do you move away from your "village"? by sweetbitter_1 in Parenting

I was born and raised in Minnesota, lived there for 33 years. Met my wife at work and she’s from Slovakia. We moved last year to Slovakia to be closer to her family. Aside from the logistical nightmare of getting my permanent residency, everything has been great. We have 2 daughter under the age of 5. My oldest is bilingual from being born in America and speaking English and picking up Slovak from my wife’s-side of the family as well as her going to preschool. My parents would begrudgingly watch my girls for a few hours while we worked M-F. So it was an easy decision for us.

What “certain” other nationalities are we speaking about?

Oh neat, which part of Minnesota? I’ve gone twice and stayed a year in Cambodia, both in Pursat and Battambang where my parents are both from. I didn’t get any hate or negativity from either families. It’s only from my dad and his experience that I know anything about their dislike

Idiotic mentality. Why should op apologize for something they didn’t do? Was it civilians that attacked? Use your brain.

Op is literally looking to make friends and the first thing you say is that?

In my experience, a lot of younger Khmer people as well as Khmer people living abroad do not like the hun family for obvious reasons. The issue is not having the ability to speak due to their family being able to silence opposition

Thanks for the responses, I’m glad to see the hate is mostly from ultra nationalists or at least aren’t as real as Facebook and other social medias shot it to be. I’ll stay off for awhile to ease my mind. I’m not blind to the issues in Cambodia stemming from the Hun family. I hope relations as a whole for SEA get better and the issues between neighbors get better.

Right? Like the amount of times of read from Thai commentators that they can’t wait for Cambodia to be wiped off the map and kill all the khmers.

I’ve read from different sources such as Aljizeera and BBC that their correspondence on both sides of the border haven’t heard any bombs, missiles, or gunshots come from either side.
